I was just so proud of these results that I had to post about it lol. For us manual enthusiasts and lovers, there is great news. A manual transmission equipped performance vehicle has finally bested its automatic counterpart according to Car and Driver. The M2 competition (405 hp, 406 lb ft torque) was tested with the Manual and the automatic and the result was fairly surprising. The Manual got to 60mph in 3.9 secs while the DCT did it in 4.0secs, both finished the quarter mile in 12.4secs. Save the manuals! :nixon:

I didn't read the article but there is something to keep in mind. With CVT's and DCT's, the results are generally repeatable every time. With a manual, it takes a high level of skill to repeatedly do perfect shifting at the perfect time to get those same times.

I agree but still that's the best they could get from the DCT which will give more consistent performance numbers, the manual still beat it, who's to say with even better shifts it couldnt widen the gap?

That article was an interesting read. If I was behind the wheel of both cars the DCT would be faster by a good margin. I've driven manual cars for 20 years. I'm competent, bit I'm not a pro. Your average driver will likely not be able to duplicate this test. But, that's ok. I'm just glad that some manufacturers still make cars with manuals. I waffle myself as to whether or not my next car will be a manual, but I'm enjoying it for now.
