I guess I am looking at this from a different angle. I keep my cars until they die or give them to someone who needs them. Buying a new car is a 12 to 15 years event for me unless circumstances call for it. The last car I sold or traded in was 2003The repairs are not my issue. I whole-heartedly believe that the car will be repaired properly with new parts by people who know what they're doing. My issue is if the car appraisal comes up $3000 less than what it was before the accident. Their insurance company needs to cut me a check for $3000 and I will see to it that they do. The car will be appraised and I will provide GEICO documentation. If they refuse I will file a complaint with the California Department of Insurance against them and take them to small claims court. That's the process and it works.
I just read a post on another site where a guy was offered $215 diminished value. He filed a complaint against the insurance company and ended up getting $2500. Know your rights and follow through.
