Drive within your own limits and not the car.
If your that curious sign up for a performance driving school but don't do it on the street.

just curious as to how people learn the limits of their vehicles, in this case the CTR.

wish i had an empty track just to play with the handling. but at the moment im just left wondering what i should and shouldn't do.
Find an autocross event or find an empty track would be the best way to do it. Otherwise, limit yourself rather than let the car limit you. You'll slowly get a grip on the car.

Less than $50 get you into most autocrosses where you can find out the limit of the tires pretty fast without endangering yourself or anyone else...highly recommended...

I definitely second the AutoX or track idea. It's definitely a very bad idea to test the ultimate limits of your car on public roads.

As they said....AUTOCROSS! This is exactly what you will find out....the limits of your traction and how to control your car at this limit. With instructors to guide you if you want. As well as great people to give you good advice.

thanks ya'll i wouldn't do anything dumb on public roads, that's why i asked :)

just wondered how people "know." seems fascinating is all.

i feel like i'd be a liability on a shared course and a private session would seem expensive but i'm new to the hobby.

I have autocross and tracking experience...and the answer to how fast can I take a turn on the street is 99% of the time 10MPH+ faster than I feel comfortable doing it.

The CTR has way higher limits, especially at high speeds, than most cars on the street. Be careful! Track days are the best place to figure out the limits, but remember that tracks often have slightly better grip than the average street.

Even a private session is a LOT less expensive than a crash repair bill, and no comparison to Hospital bills !!
If you can afford to buy an "R", you can afford to learn to drive it correctly .

You wont really know the limits of the car unless 2 identical pro's are driving the car pretty much. Everyone has their limits and it's based off skill and seat time. I have been doing Time trial for 8 years now and i took my stock Type r against some Porshe owners and other Type R owners who have suspension modifications and beat them with my stock type r. Really just comes down to seat time, the more you drive at a track course the better driver you will become and learn the limits.
