I would try to have State Farm handle the claim since they use OEM parts. Geico will use aftermarket parts whenever possible. BTW, I don't think these cars have frames, they are unibody.
State farm is handling the claim and I verified with Caliber that OEM parts are being used. The Caliber shop is the one at the dealer I bought the car from. I don't know what the diminished value will be but I will get an inspection done. $200 is worth the peace of mind. If its only $1000 then so be it, I won't bother with a claim. It will be 3-4 weeks before the car is fixed.

You'll spend more getting appraisals and fighting the insurance company than you would get in a diminished value claim. You car, sadly, is not a limited production, 1 of 200 cars built worldwide. Its a Civic Si. It will be full repaired and warrantied like someone above mentioned. It is, in fact, "as good as it was". You've lost more value in depreciation than from the accident. How much do you view your "diminished value" claim to be worth? $1000?
I would agree with @racer here. The shop is going to repair your car, including frame damage, and they will guarantee those repairs for the life of the car. Although it does suck, I have a family friend who owns a body shop in the Bay Area and contracts with insurance companies like Geico, and he told me shops like his can repair the most damaged cars back to new condition, even frame damage. Your going to spend more time and money fighting the insurance companies, maybe that is worth it to you, that is the call you will have to make. If it were me, I would allow them to repair the car and monitor the repairs, ask lots of questions, and have them give me reports on exactly what they did and explain it to me like I was a kid. Anyway, that is my take

Caliber is an excellent body shop, someone recently hit my daughter's Camry, and there was previous damage the insurance company would not pay for making the repair very difficult, as they would not be able to fully do the repairs without fixing the previous damage. They worked it out so I got a new bumper and only $150 came out of my pocket instead of $1500, which it would have costed me

I disagree a little. The diminished value claim would be worth 1-2k. Hire someone for 250 dollars, let them handle the appraisal and all the nonsense and pocket the rest.

Yeah considering its 11k damage and Caliber is anticipating another 3k additional I would think the depreciation would be a considerable amount. I'm anticipating $2500-$3000.

Well.. something to consider. The car will be repaired. The title will not be branded "salvage" or "rebuilt". The title will be clean. The "carfax" history may, at most, simply indicate "accident" but it won't tell the extent. Was it $500 for a bumper cap repair and respray or $15K for a significant repair? How you sell it eventually is up to you. My guess is you were not planning to sell the car "today".. What was the original plan? Own for 3 years? 5 years? 2 year lease? Sure, the appraisal is perhaps as someone mentioned $250.. Then its your time (which is money) or just your money getting another person (lawyer) involved etc.

All that said, once the car is repaired, take the time to really look at the repair. Panel gaps, paint blending. Any riding/driving changes, interior fitment issues (the whole car comes apart for these kinds of repairs). Then keep a watch while you own it. I had a car that had pretty significant repairs. Car was fine.. but about 3 years later, the "new" clearcoat started to fail. At that point I didn't personally care (car was 8-10 years old with 150,000 miles) but had it been newer with less miles, I may have made a stink try and get it fixed again by the Ins. co.

Caliber has seen my Type R two times and each time I have been thoroughly satisfied with the service and care provided. Very, very good place for bodywork.

I seen a lot of things from Caliber that you would not believe. I seen used parts many times sold as new parts. It is a shame but true. The paint job ia good but pretending to use new parts and charging the insurance for new parts is a no no.

The repairs are not my issue. I whole-heartedly believe that the car will be repaired properly with new parts by people who know what they're doing. My issue is if the car appraisal comes up $3000 less than what it was before the accident. Their insurance company needs to cut me a check for $3000 and I will see to it that they do. The car will be appraised and I will provide GEICO documentation. If they refuse I will file a complaint with the California Department of Insurance against them and take them to small claims court. That's the process and it works.

I just read a post on another site where a guy was offered $215 diminished value. He filed a complaint against the insurance company and ended up getting $2500. Know your rights and follow through.
