Oil looked really dark, for 3600 miles, but little to no smell of Gas in the drained HOT oil., and oil level had remained constant from the 2nd week of ownership, when we drained it down to the TOP FULL mark on the Dipstick. (Removed about 1/4 Quart of oil - sucked it out through the dipstick tube)

A/C works very well -- has been used almost every time the car is driven, winter to remove humidity, summer to remove heat.

Car came straight from Factory, to dealer, and we purchased the car within a few days of the Dealer getting it. (They did not have time to screw with anything !!)

Currently, no changes or updates to how it came from the Factory, apart from the Oil & filter change this weekend.

Did fit an aftermarket DIRECT TPMS, using external sensors. Set correct pressures (Nitrogen) 2 weeks into ownership, and the pressure have remained acceptably stable... despite obvious weather temperature changes from Summer, to Winter to Summer.

So far - so good !!!

Mine is mid 2018 touring. No issues, but RPMS do rev sometimes for no reason. Recently starting doing that. No issues with air conditioner. Almost 15,000 miles.

One thing that may have contributed to us not having any issues.

For the 1st 3 months of driving the car, we had both our car Monitored by the Nationwide Insurance "Smartride" system, so we drove it to maximize the "Good Driving" discount.
Maybe that restrained Run-In period helped ??

The result was a very significant discount on both our car's Insurance rate going forward (without any additional monitoring :drive:

)

Maybe a DOUBLE Bonus !!!

Only time our SI's RPM "revs" when it should not, is it one of us messes up a gear change .. does not happen very often -- we both learnt to drive with Manual Gearboxes, so they are 2nd nature.

I received this same letter yesterday but never received one for the Oil Dilution. I called Honda and there is no Oil Dilution TSB for my VIN. I have also not experienced anything mentioned in this letter.

I got the letter as well. I have not had any issues other than a strong gasoline smell from the dipstick on first oil change. I had the software update and A/C part replaced- I am leasing my ‘18 hatch sport- initially my doubts were about the longevity of the CVT- now my issue is with the longevity and reliability of the 1.5t engine. I was probably going to purchase the car at lease end but not now. Oil quality is paramount in a turbocharged engine - it’s got me seriously wondering how long these will last. Back to normally aspirated engines and old school automatics for me !!

Same here, I haven't received any TSB from Honda, and I haven't had any issues with my car, though I don't drive it much and has less than 8000 miles, I have changed the oil myself at 2700 miles and 5500 miles and though it was a bit "dirty" for such low miles there was no gas smell. I tend to change my oil every 3000 miles or 6/8 months because here in Florida we get a lot of humidity and since I don't drive it much, there will condensation inside the crank case. Plus you can never change it to much, and if spending $35 or so to change it every 6 months or so will extend the life of my car, than its worth it.

I have had my Civic Si for just over two years and crossed over the 30K mark yesterday, and came home from a road trip to find the letter referenced above. While I have experienced none of the other problems I have been following the oil dilution issue for some time. As someone who keeps cars for a long time I am not overly concerned but be aware that since the unlimited mileage warranty only applies to the original owner this will effect future vehicle values.

Same here. I got the letter yesterday, but no oil dilution TSB letter. I'm guessing it's because I live in FL. It seems like they're only doing the TSB in colder climates.

Yes, but when you read the letter carefully, it reads that the Letter applies to car that have had the OD TSB mods done, and then also have developed the Misfire condition occur.

I can see Dealers saying that since you did not have the OD TSB mod done, this extended warranty and coverage does not apply to you, so here is what it will cost you $$$$$$$ !!

All these GenX Civics are Direct Injection (which we know is prone to OD)

So why do some Vin Numbers have OD recalls and some don't ?

It would seem that there is something else going on in these RECALL cars, that is not common to ALL 1.5L Turbo engines in all cars -- or else the whole VIN# filtering is BS.

If it truly is a BATCH of cars within a certain Vin# range, it's highly annoying that Honda will not say so, and clearly Identify what the Screw Up was with those cars, and how that can be corrected so that those cars are just as good as non screwed up cars !!

At this point i time, I have little confidence in the Accuracy and Completeness of what Vin# cars, Honda is claiming have RECALL needs.

This letter is mostly for people living in the warmer parts of the US who didn't have any fixes done related to oil dilution. Like me. They don't need to do anything, and still have their drivetrain warranty extended. Frankly, no civic owner has to do anything at all, except pull the damn dipstick once in a month (at least) and not let the oil level get crazy high.

Who wants to hear the mysterious whirling noise (I believe they mean "whirring") should add a couple quarts of oil to already full engine and keep adding, until the engine makes curious sounds and misfire codes pop up. Any volunteers to contribute to the community?

"In 1994 we had a guy come in the garage with a late 80’s I think, T-Bird w a 351 CID engine that was making horrible mechanical noises from the engine. He had just had his oil changed at a fast lube place 4 days earlier. I found 10.5 quarts in the lubrication system as opposed to the proper 5 quarts. The engine was shot."
