Since the previous thread was locked due to everyone blaming me for my civic rusting out in less than a year, I just wanted to let the reasonable people out there know that if you do have rust this early they will likely take care of it. Honda stood by their warranty and I'm dropping it off in a couple of weeks to get repainted, I will post after pictures when that happens. Here's the rust I have now, keep an eye out under your doors, this was on my driver door on my 2 door Si after less than one year and VERY regular cleaning.

What was the cause of the rust? Did the paint get chipped and then started rusting out? Or was it an issue from the factory. Just curious

It was uniform across the bottom of the door, so probably a factory defect.

And yes, no shortage of haters around. Even ones that happen to drive nice cars!

Hey guys, just wanted to update you, Honda repainted the door and it looks great! Ignore the streaks going down the door, that's the lackluster car wash they did after repainting it (why did they even bother trying?) They never gave me a root cause, but I'm sure it was a factory defect.

Shit. Thats nuts. My last car was a 2011 Ford Fusion which I owned for nearly 10 years. about 2 years after I got it some ass hat opened their door into my car and chipped paint clean off. There was exposed metal. I live in Illinois so there is salt in the winter the whole 9 yards. That exposed metal NEVER rusted. Im a new Honda owner, but you will never get me to say a bad word about ford vehicles. All I owned was fords prior to my touring and I only switched because ford will be getting rid of selling sedans and I figured I need to find a new brand eventually, why not start now (It was difficult not to just buy another fusion based on my experience with the last one). Its new territory for me and I bought a honda based on their reputation so I hope I made the right decision.

We've had good luck with Fords, too (and Hondas). But exposed steel rusts. Was it galvanized?

From my understanding these parts are electrified and dipped into the paint, I'm thinking what happened to my car was some kind of dealership cover-up before I even bought it, but that's just a wild guess.

You can typically tell that with a paint thickness gauge.

Good to know for next time, I'm just happy that Honda honored their warranty. A lot of guys in this forum blamed me for it and told me Honda shouldn't cover the warranty. Pssshh
