Anyone else get this? Guess I’m calling Honda to see if there’s a update on my 2018 Civic Touring. This worries me. :dunno::( :feedback:

Mine just came today as well. Wondering what the originating source of concern is to cause Honda to extend the drive train warranty?

I got mine today as well -- I have a fluid change appointment at the dealership this Friday, but have experienced the AC whirling noise for about a year now. I am going to see if the dealer will investigate.

I haven’t noticed anything with the air conditioner. Sometimes my rpm seems to be going higher for no reason.

I may be wrong or confused; but I believe the issue is engine damage due to oil dilution. The AC thingy changes the software so as to get the engine up to temperature as quickly as possible (and reduce the uncombusted gasoline that may leak down into the oil).

This probably isn’t good for the longevity of the vehicle.

How many miles do you have on yours? Mine is at almost 15,000

I’m going to start racking up miles soon. Hope I don’t have a issue.

This Warranty Extension letter seems to say some interesting things, if you read it carefully.

Honda Civic 10th gen Warranty Extension Notice Letter Warranty Extension 2

The 1st thing to note is that in the 1st paragraph, it seems to imply that it is for 2016-18 Civic 1.5L that HAVE HAD THE OD TSB done, and then go on to exhibit Misfire conditions (and/or some undefined WHIRLING Noise, that is not defined in any was to what might be the cause of the Noise)

This begs the Question, why when the OD has been reduced, is there how a concern about Engine Cylinder Misfire ?

As well as regular oil checks and changes, checking the fuel injector nozzles can help to reduce the occurrence of fuel dilution—as dirty nozzles can prevent the fuel from atomizing correctly, and in turn, prevent the fuel from combusting efficiently—so not keeping up with maintenance in this area is another way of increasing the potential for fuel dilution to occur, and it's resulting damage to the engine
So is there a Fuel Injection issue lurking under all this as well ?

Another thing that can happen if OD is excessive (or OIL is Overfilled, as many have reported), is that the Oil can become FROTHED up, and when that happens, its lubrication effect is severely diminished, leading to excessive wear ... ie CAM SHAFT & ROCKER ARM assemblies, as mentioned in the Warranty Extension.

Also, what is the CAUSE of the "WHIRLING Noise" that is referred to ?

I get the distinct feeling that we are not being told even half of the story, and that Honda knows something that while they realize they need to address it, seem reluctant to come clean and tell Civic 1.5T owners what the complete story is.
Then, on top of this, is the obvious A/C failure/leaking situation.

Have the above issue been corrected in the 2019 models ? Possibly by updated parts (ie A/C Condensers)

Are those getting CONDENSER replaced, getting the newer 2019 version ( IF it exists), or still getting the defective 2018 versions. Are they even being told if they are or not ?

Last week when I looked up some of the 2018 Condenser parts on the ONLINE Honda sales sites, most were stating that the A01 version was DISCONTINUED, but showed no replacement.

Is the OD fix of ECU reprogramming, actually be causing some of the Misfire issues ??

Lost of Questions, but very few straight answers seem to be coming from Honda (or the Dealers !!)

I caught that too! Haven’t done the TSB update. Makes me ponder if I should? :dunno:

3600 on a mid 2018 SI Coupe. Did the 1st Oil and filter change this weekend (Myself)

Oil looked really dark, for 3600 miles, but little to no smell of Gas in the drained HOT oil., and oil level had remained constant from the 2nd week of ownership, when we drained it down to the TOP FULL mark on the Dipstick. (Removed about 1/4 Quart of oil - sucked it out through the dipstick tube)

A/C works very well -- has been used almost every time the car is driven, winter to remove humidity, summer to remove heat.

Car came straight from Factory, to dealer, and we purchased the car within a few days of the Dealer getting it. (They did not have time to screw with anything !!)

Currently, no changes or updates to how it came from the Factory, apart from the Oil & filter change this weekend.

Did fit an aftermarket DIRECT TPMS, using external sensors. Set correct pressures (Nitrogen) 2 weeks into ownership, and the pressure have remained acceptably stable... despite obvious weather temperature changes from Summer, to Winter to Summer.

So far - so good !!!
