Hello all,

I'm in the market for a new Type R, but am pretty frustrated dealing with greedy dealers asking for +$10k ADM and unwanted dealer accessory add-ons. A friend of mine suggested the idea of utilizing a car broker to help me get a Type R at a better price. He used this broker to lease an Acura TLX A-spec and was able to get him a great deal on the car giving him a lower monthly payment than if my friend went to the dealership on his own. Said car broker has exceptional yelp reviews, pretty much 5 stars with over 50 reviews (taken with a grain of salt).

I have never used a car broker and wanted to hear other people's experiences using a car broker, whether it be positive, negative, or neutral. Is using a broker a good idea? Avoid at all costs?

Thanks in advance,
Jon

Had a friend use Tom McParland who posts a lot on jalopnik.com to help him buy a used Porsche 911. He had a great experience and thought it was well worth it. I don’t know though you might do just as well using the dealer nice list thread and having a car shipped to you...

I've got a friend who uses one to get BMWs. He seems pretty happy with him. I don't know how he compensates him though. FWIW, there's a guy on jalopnik who's a broker. https://kinja.com/tommcparland
Maybe he can help you.

I tried using a car broker cartelligent when I was in the market in feb2018. The best they could get was $5k over.

Was able to do a better deal on my own in California.

It was free for them to see what they could do so I gave it a shot. Their fee was something like $350 if I bought the car through them.

Also don't focus on your monthly car payment. Consider instead the overall price of the car instead. You can make a Ferrari cheap monthly but be paying for years.

I just used autotrader and spammed every dealer within 200 miles of me

I think paying MSRP years after the car debuts is more than fair

Found one within a week

Yeah. If we could cut the neurotic bullshit, that would be great. It's this kind of pent-up obsessive insanity that's keeping prices high. The car's gone up by almost $2K MSRP since it was released.

I'm not paying anything over MSRP - at that point it's lost its purpose. There are other awesome cars out there at this price, especially if you open yourself up to the lightly-used market.

this was effective for me too
I just used autotrader and spammed every dealer within 200 miles of me
I did similar, used CarGurus.com and contacted every dealer in Florida for months. When I bought my car, 100% of the negotiation was done via email, I only called and confirmed the email communication was accurate before I drove 3.5 hours to pick it up. If you want to get the car at MSRP, you've got to be an email warrior and contact every dealer with a CTR you would be willing to drive and get

I used CarGurus/Autotrader/Cars.com. Sorted for 2019, new, in Championship White and then started emailing and calling in a radius out from Atlanta. Located mine on about the 10th-12th dealership I contacted. You could hire someone to do that for you, but it takes almost no time, especially if you email and are direct about what you want.

For me, it was white, 2019, MSRP or below, delivery miles only, and no dealer added accessories. Told every dealership I would close the deal the upcoming weekend, cash buyer, they wouldn't make a ton off me but it would be very quick and straightforward for both parties. Found a dealership who didn't play games and it was a very easy process.

My buddy said he saved thousands on a new land cruiser by paying a company $300 to do all the wheeling and dealing for him.

If you do go the emailing dealerships route I suggest you do what I did, create a new email address just for your search. It will get annoying when you keep getting ads of dealers trying to sell cars. After you get your R you can just forget about that email and wouldn't have to worry about unsubscribing to emailing lists.

you do know what inflation is correct? The type R is still underpriced at 37k...
