Did only my 2nd ever AX in this car ever at a local PCA event. Bone stock Si. Goodyear All season tires. Didn't really know where to be with Tire pressures, so jacked them up to about 40psi all around. Did the first run in sport with VSA off switched off. Not bad, but could already feel the computers kicking in. Looked up and performed the "Pedal dance" to fully disable. Car was a bit better response wise.. slightly better at rotating. Chopped down some time.

After all my overdriving ( ;) ) my best was a 55.999. There were 2 other civics and several mark 7 GTi's who I deemed as my competition. One was a Gen 8 Si coupe with a bunch of stickers.. uh oh.. Koni shocks (double adjustables), R comp tires and a few other tweeks with an avid AX driver, but I couldn't hold it off. Lost to that Si by just about 1 second even. Then again, at this event, all Non Porsches are grouped in 1 big guest class.. where FTD went to a Lotus Exige at 49.9xx !

Admittedly, moving from Rear or Mid engine / RWD platforms I am used to, to a Front Engine/FWD was the biggest challenge. I kept wanting to drive it in a way that wasn't the quickest. Wanted to throw the car into corners and power out.. but usually kept going in a bit to hot and then out a bit too slow :( or maybe I need to mask my mistakes with R comp tires and beat more people :)

I had a good battle with Jack Burns in Cincy, yesterday. We ended up being less than a tenth off of each other, but I ended up finishing 2nd. I was 4th in PAX, and less than a tenth off of 1st. Last run would have been my fastest, but I hit a cone. It was a great, flowing course.

Thanks Snap. The Bristol courses were real fast. I don't shift well on course, so I did the morning in all 2nd. The amount of rev limiter was, uh, real bad. Car switched from the quick bupbupbupbup limiter to a second slow BrrrrvvvmmmBrrrrrvvmmm limiter. When on the slow limiter, the car grabbed a brake on me pretty hard in a couple transitions so I decided to try and shift for the afternoon. Gained a TON of top speed, but my line suffered some since that's too many things at once for my brain to process.

Match Day 2 nothing was on the line, so I just let it fly, and got a little better with the shifts. Here's my first and only clean run:

Champ tour I did myself in with a cone, 2 cones, then big slide day 1. Didn't have the killer instinct on day 2, but fought back up to a trophy spot.

Snap's co-driver Dan put on a damn show in the SI with not enough doors to fight all the way up to second, 0.073 short of the win. Amazing.

I didn't get to watch first drivers, but I did get to watch Kirkland run. He was absolutely spot on in his FoST, no way I was that accurate. So I stand by my position that the Civic was just the better car. Casino told me they'll be co-driving at nats too, which is great because those guys are super effing cool. Cochran was on sticker RE71s and was having clutch & brake issues, I expect he'll be back to full force by then too.

40.5mpg down, 39.8 on the way back sure wasn't bad. Seat was starting to get uncomfortable at the 9 hour mark, but what are you going to do.

Got my 2nd event approaching later this month, this time around I plan to try and determine optimal pressures. What pressures would you guys recommend starting at? Just the normal temps (I think its 32 all around) and adjust them in increments of 2?

For my car (255 17 RE71, Karcepts full stiff) I've been running 37 square. In my experience, RE71s aren't super pressure sensitive. Too low, they get sloppy/mushy, too high and the car feels darty/nervous. Big bandwidth in between that mostly adjusts shoulder wear. Haven't found the endpoints on my setup, but I'd guess if you stay between 33 and 39 you'll be fine. Since the 255s are pretty pinched on the 8s, I tend towards the high end to give them a little more support. I'm no help if you have BFGs.

I tried but didn't like the way the car felt with extra high rear pressures. Car seems to be quickest when it is not allowed to rotate anything more than a smidge of rear slip angle.

Of course this is all setup / tire / driver / surface dependent, what works for me may not work for you, YMMV and all that jazz.

Ok cool, I am on the OEM summer tires. I'll probably just move them up to 35 and see where the day takes me! Thanks!!!

We run 32 PSI on Bridgestones, 35 on BFGs, a couple PSI less on the rear than the front. Type R moves around a bit more than the SI. In the GTI we ran the same ball park pressure but square...

For the OEM tires I'd start on the higher end and work your way down. Not knowing them well, I'll wager they have softer sidewalls than the hot 200tw stuff.
