I just got the HondaHack Pro at the beginning of the week after seeing this latest update, which is what finally got me to go for it. Here is my personal opinion.

In summary, to be honest, I regret getting it and really feel like it was pretty much a complete waste of money for me. I don't have any tuning to my vehicle and don't use it for any tuner apps or anything like that.

In detail, here is why. Keep in mind I have a 2019 Civic HB Touring.
First and foremost the fact that you can access the rear camera is super neat and what really drove me to finally jump on it and get the hack. However, it has some really major flaws. If I operate the right signal (or push the side view camera button) or put the car in reverse while rear-view camera is on, the whole unit gets stuck on the side-view or rear-view(for reverse) camera now. I can eventually unfreeze it but it takes a long time and requires my intervention. The last update is apparently suppose to avoid this issue but it's not working in my case. Therefore I have to make sure I deactivate the rear-view camera before using any other. This is a huge letdown for me.

Second thing I thought was quite neat was the intro video when starting the car. Theres two issues with this. One, the video is laggy, which is understandable since the unit is booting up and CPU is loaded. But that's not the deal breaker for me. The second and bigger issue is that it switches the Audio Source to App Audio if playing video sound and so I have to switch back to the source I was listening before (such as Radio) every single time i start the car. Major PITA!!!

Third, I wanted to be able to play videos on Youtube. Not for me to watch while driving, but many times I want to share a video with the passenger(s) by asking them to look it up, or when we are in parking lot, or I might just want to listen to the audio of the video (such as lookup a music video). First issue here is that Youtube is useless since it requires Google Services and with Google Services installed the head unit goes to shit. So you can't really install either. There is the lite version app of youtube and that works fairly well. But the problem I have with that is if you are watching while your driving, anytime you signal right or go into reverse (camera image comes on screen), the video cuts out and so does the audio. This makes it virtually unusable while driving unless you are on and empty highway.

Fourth, it described adding navigation instructions in-dash for apps like Waze. I thought, sweeeet! Only to realize that only works if you are using an app installed on HU, not through apple carplay. I don't want to install Waze on the HU as I prefer it through Carplay. So yet again another neat feature that I can't really use.

The fifth and last straw for me, my head unit randomly froze this morning showing Honda symbol on screen and not going away. The unit was actually still functioning in the background since I could start my radio, but nothing else was working and I couldn't perform a restart or access any function what so ever. Camera's wouldn't come on either. I went back to my car at lunch and the unit had somehow recovered. I ran through all the optimization options and it seems to launch smoothly and everything works ok again.

So ya, essentially almost every single option/feature that I was looking for in HondaHack is bugged, either to the point that it's completely useless to me or hugely limited/impaired.
The only thing that really works perfect and I do like, is the automatic OK on the warning screen to eliminate it from showing. But 30USD just to remove that warning... i would've passed if it was just for that.

Did you use 5.0.5 or the newer 5.0.10 that fixed issues with the camera's?

As one of the early supporter of honda hack I think people expect too much from this. What I expect is for navigation and video playing to work.

That being said I'm on 5.0.10 and the waze (installed on HU) voice does not work when the radio is on. The video playing works perfectly; tho.

i never had honda hack before and installed the latest 5.0.10. i do not have any issues that you have. the audio source switches back to bluetooth or whatever it was before. the startup video plays back smoothly no lags whatsoever. no freezes either. workign fine smoothly albeit when i use waze instaled via HH on HU the overall unit is bit slow but stil usable. apart from waze the only other thing i hv got is play store, but i might unisntall that as well.

i liked the idea of key remapping and find the reverse camera feture useful.

i also like where it reduce ur music whne you put in reverse gear .

just small little features . may not be important or huge to everyone but some may find useful and the price is good as well for the amount of work the developer has put intot i

So guys, I have a question for you Honda Hack long time users. I did manage to get Waze installed on the HU but is the only way to get it to work to have a hotspot from your phone on and car connected to it? Is there a way for the HU to use the phone's network connection either thru Bluetooth or USB as normal computers can? Because if I plug my phone into the cars USB port (tried with iPhone, not tried with Android yet) CarPlay connects, and my hotspot does NOT show up when the show wifi devices scans for it on the HU. If I unplug the phone, I can connect to the hotspot and Waze does beautifully display the directions in the dash, but on a long trip, having the phone not plugged into the USB and with both bluetooth/data/hotspot working, the battery is not going to last long... It would be sad if this option is only viable for short trips or worse, you need to use a power bank to keep the phone juiced while there is a perfectly fine USB power source already in the car. Any thoughts?

Well with android I can run my hotspot and android auto at the same time. I use AA for Waze. I use the hotspot for Netflix.

I will try it with my android phone to see if it makes any difference, thank you!

I also did not have HH before. As I mentioned, it was the latest reported features that made me jump the gun and get it.
I noticed your from Australia, and you have a Civic RS (this option doesn't exist here in Canada), so I'm wondering if there is some sort of compatibility issue with different versions of stock software.
And I'de definitely agree with your statement about the cost and effort if the features actually worked properly, but at least for me, none of the features that I wanted work properly. That's the same as buying a brand new flagship cellphone only to find out your carrier is not supported, but nothing was documented about it and you had no way of knowing. I'm sure the cellphone is fantastic, but its useless to me if it doesn't work in my situation. Same with HH. I'de return it immediately if I could.

Can y'all chime in on whether or not viper4android works when playing audio via carplay? Obviously it will over Bluetooth and I don't expect it to via carplay, but you never know...

Looking forward to installing 5.0.10 in the next few days when I can catch a break from the wife & kids! Button remapping is what I really want out of it.

*Edit*
Just wanted to chime in and say that it DOES work when using carplay!

can we remove hondahack?
because I do not want it anymore

yes you can

Just do a factory reset

HondaHack is a waste of money with how it makes the head unit perform. the ONLY thing I like is unlocking the head unit to think it is always "parked" But it makes it so laggy it's just not worth it... among all the other issues others have stated

I have Honda Hack on 3 head units, and all 3 work very well.
No slow down, and I can do far more on the head units now.

YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR, and if you paid for Honda Hack, you only paid a very small amount for all the work the developer has, and is still putting into it.

Updates are FREE and the developer is always adding new features, and fixing bugs as they are reported to him.

For what it is, and what it costs, its a GREAT DEAL- and if you don't like it as it is, you can always UNINSTALL it, and maybe come back and try it again in a few months after some more updates.

However, if you use it to load up your head unit with a lot of big and badly written apps, then it's hardly Honda Hacks fault that the "10+ year old design" OBSOLETE Honda Head Unit grinds to a halt.
