Civic Type R sedan and coupe

Carscoops is saying that Honda will also launch a sedan and coupe version of the Type R (in addition to the hatch). Not sure how true this is or if they are speculating. I haven't heard anything official. Anyone else?

Besides the Civic Type R hatch, which has already been confirmed for the US , Honda is also expected to launch a Type R sedan and Type R coupe.

Being a global model it's not out of the question. But I'm willing to bet it's either a hatch or sedan to start.

Yea I'm thinking a hatchback first if any of the others follow. I'd really like to see a coupe version of the Type R. The decreased length and weight could make it an even better performing car.

A coupe would also be the most popular one. Americans might have warmed up to hatchbacks but we still like our coupes more.

I don't know about weight but look at these pics - the hatchback will clearly be shorter than the sedan.

Rear overhang is definitely shorter and maybe even the front.

I'd bet there wouldn't be that much of a length difference on the coupe over a sedan. If anything, the hatchback will probably be the shortest for sure.

What's more important is to notice the wheel base and if there is much, if any difference between the two. This will have an actual effect on performance and characteristics of the car.

On the 8thgen civic it was well known that the slightly longer wheel base of the sedan granted it to a stronger platform for track use. This is even with the extra 59lbs found on the sedan.

Depends on what type of track no? High speed track with lots of straights would probably benefit from long wheelbase but short technical track with lots of turns would be better with shorter wheelbase.

Yeah, I would have to agree there. Just look at a Miata on an autocross course.

Autocross is not in question here. I said track.

And yes, in peculiar environments the shorter wheel base can offer an edge over the sedan. But this is being nit picky. Look at a majority of all tracks in the U.S. The only track that even remotely comes to mind to be tight enough to lend favor to a shorter wheel base is Horse Thief Mile at Willow Springs. Also, you are denying the fact that the sedans almost ALWAYS provide improved torsional rigidity over coupes. And not by a small deal.
