Anybody used one of the new rubber things (looks like a computer mouse, kind of) that is supposed to do the same thing as clay? Saw it at the store the other day but made me nervous to try it.
I have the Griot's version and used it in my windshield. Seems ok. It's definitely easier to use than clay with all the folding and what not

I recommend NanoSkin to all my buddies. Got my uncle to convert from traditional clay.

Sure, purists may say it only does 9/10ths as good, but its easily 10x faster and safer.

this^

imo it isn't 100% but like 90% but it is 100x faster. I've used similiar products from other companies but the nanoskin just worked better. Just have to remember to use it on your glass first.

Why the glass first

Yea, mothers also makes one.
I’ll be honest I’m not a fan of mothers products out of all the auto cleaning products that you buy at a auto parts store (auto zone/advance auto) or Walmart and target I usually stick with meguiars products. But I can’t find any synthetic clay in the stores

they recommend you to "break in" the nanoskin on glass.
They ship with a film over the usable area to protect it. If you use it on your paint, you'll get some marring, but its safe on your glass - so they recommend you hit your windows with it to remove the film then rinse before touching paint.

I’ve got a few good suggestions on this thread. I guess I’ll have to choose but the nanoskin kit looks like a good deal :hmm:

I really do not know the difference between synthetic and regular clay. I have been using Meguiars Clay Kit for many years and it never fails me. For me, it is easy and fast and it takes maybe 20 minutes to Clay my Civic Coupe.

I checked on this Nanoskin Clay and came across this video. Of course, this is only one man’s opinion.

A few things, you shouldn't be claying without washing the car first. That's common sense and since you shouldn't be washing in the direct sun anyway, I can't see anyone claying a hot metal panel. As much as he complains about it, he still uses it. I've never had any problem storing mine .

I see what he’s talking about direct sunlight unfortunately I live in Florida and a shady spot is rare. Most of the times i have to wash my car in direct sunlight there is a shady spot where I can wax and detail even the winter time down here will get in the 80s but you’ll have the same problem with conventional clay bar plus it softens up too much Synthetic clay might be the way to go

I don't exactly have a shady spot, but I always wait till the sun has started to go down. I have just enough time to wash and dry, clay ,then get it waxed. Of course I do have two of us doing it.
One thing I can suggest though if you must do it in the sun, I use some chemical guys shampoos that are ph balanced and say you can use them in direct sun. I had to try that out once and it did actually come out ok. Somehow, the sun didn't dry up the water as fast and left no streaking.

I use a foam cannon ( garden hose) and meguiars gold wash it works good even in sunlight and it doesn’t dry as fast as the bucket in soap routine but i read that the chemical guys wash are very good and work best in a foam cannon

As a side note, some new waxes can be applied in direct sunlight.

“The wax can be applied in direct sunlight on a warm surface - it won't affect the performance of Meguiars Ultimate Liquid Wax. If a little wax gets on the trim, don't worry. Meguiars Ultimate Liquid Wax does not leave white stains on trim.....”
