Need advice: factory flashed hondata tune to ktuner

Hey guys.

Last summer I had my ecu flashed by a Honda dealer to the Hondata +6psi tune which was warrantied. Now, I'm looking into buying a ktuner. Once I purchase the tuner, will I have any issues flashing to the ktuner basemaps or will my ecu be locked?

First of all, to clear something up, even though a Honda dealer flashed your Hondata tune, that doesn't mean your warranty was guaranteed even if your engine blew up or something. Some Honda dealers are authorized Hondata dealers but it's not tied into your Honda warranty.

As far as switching to Ktuner, I went from Hondata to Ktuner with no issues at all. You'll be fine. Just make sure the dealer flashes you back to the stock tune first.

I guess it's not "officially warrantied" but they said they'd cover any issues caused by the tune. Whether they're true to their word or not? Hard to say.

So I wouldn't be able to just flash directly from my ktuner? I need the stock tune on first?

To clarify, you cannot flash to KTuner with the Hondata tune installed. Uninstalling through the dealer is your first step.

Yes, you can flash to KTuner by overwriting an existing tune.

If the user does that, will they have a way to restore the OEM factory base tune?

All supported factory files are built into the KTuner software.

Does this mean I should be able to buy my friends ktuner and unlock it when he reflashed his car to hondata? He switched his ktuner to hondata but didn’t flash his car back to stock before getting it done.

He should be able to return to factory and unlock it still.

Currently unable to unlock, emailed, no response yet, battery is on full blast on laptop, using phones hotspot for internet, already did "return to factory"
