The comparison bet. the Type R & the Corvette is better suited for someone who is paying mark up for the CTR. However, yes, there is a discount on the Corvette now (take that! Used M3). I’m already CTR’s owner now, so I would not apply, but if you ask me both cars can be in the $35K range, I would not hesitate to pull the trigger on the V8.

Aren't most folks in Florida retired people though? lol
I suppose so, but regardless people daily them. The only reason I made the post thing was because I was just shocked how cheap they were right now.

I was 35 and single when I bought my 'Vette. Everybody's situation is different. I would encourage the OP to check with his insurance company to check what his rates would be for each.

I've always been a "jackrabbit" with my driving, even with my 'Vette, and I hate to slow down for corners. But yeah, I see the type of drivers your talking about all the time.
I checked with USAA because that’s who I’d prefer to use. They said $150 for both, I just did a quick check in their app though.

Lol I drive a MT M3 right now. I’m a spoiled brat and thankfully my dad pays for the car for now. I’m out of school and working and I’ve been saving every dime for a car and to pay off my loan (the loan comes first). I didn’t think I’d be able to afford a car for a number of years as amazing as the M3 I was so graciously given. That’s why I was really excited to see the corvette. The CTR is certainly easier on the budget, but honestly at these discounts I think it would be maybe $50 more a month with what I was going to put down on the type R. It’s going to be a last minute call on my end but it’s always fun to look, you never know what you’ll find.

those are all MT figures too. The AT should get better mpg than the MT version for all of those cars listed. It's the big displacement V8 that makes people think it had horrible mpg. Even the C5s had something similiar street numbers but a lower freeway value.

The new corvettes runs at like 1500 rpm in 7th gear going 80 mphw while the S2000 would be like at 4k rpm, and the Z would be like 3300 rpm. I never owned a cayman so idk about that but i assume it's probably somewhere in the 3k range.

The Corvette also has this thing called active fuel management which cuts 4 cylinders when its in "eco" mode which helps obtain the mpg that it can. I don't remember when that was introduced but i remember reading about it.

it's still not really "great" mpg figures in todays standards but it's not as bad as people think it is.
Whoa! Learned something new today which gives more appreciation towards V8 cars in general. Technology has come a long way. 1500 RMP going 80 would be a dream!

looks like you were already leaning towards the vette. good luck with whatever you end up with...there's no wrong choice.

I don’t think I would even trade my Si for a corvette stingray. Go with a Type R man.
Or how about the new Supra? Those are gorgeous

What year is the M3?

It's all good your folks have cash and they treat you well with it. You come off as a humble guy and I think that in itself is way more important than anything else. Money is meant to be enjoyed, isn't it? :D

That said, I didn't own a Vette, but I did have a Nismo 370z for a few years, so I feel I can add some perspective. Being a two seater coupe with near zero storage space, made more to be a toy car than a DD, it does share a bunch with the corvette, even if it is slower.

I liked my 370z. It was a fun car, but it did lack any sort of practicality. Of course it was just a toy for me, but I eventually sold that and my DD and picked up the CTR instead.

While performance is always nice, honestly, the CTR can get you in plenty of shit as is. And with a $1000 tune, it puts out great numbers for what it is, and it is an absolute smash through any corner. The braking is also superb. Even in stock form it is an absolute howl.

Yes FWD is a bit of a set back. I'm a Honda guy through and through, but I cannot deny this aspect. There is a complete lack of torque steer which is wonderful. The car can out corner so many other cars even though it's fwd. The only real downside is straight line racing because starting off from a stop is nowhere nearly as quick due to traction issues (though there are many improvements, like the Cusco rear mount and traction control system improvements through hondata, etc)

I also don't think an entry level Vette is all that sexy- Yes they are capable cars, but they're literally everywhere and they're a dime a dozen. At least with the civic, there's this associated feeling of knowing you have something special that I doubt you'd get with a cheaper Vette. It's the same with the Mustang or Camaro. A Mustang GT is just like... Oh wow, there another. I saw 46 today. Meh. I Have had an entry level Vette guy comeup to me to check the CTR out. I assure you I don't share the same enthusiasm with his car. I can open autotrader and find 5384847 of them for sale.

The practicality of the car is second to no other performance car. Haul four people and luggage in the trunk. Run out to Lowe's for some 2x4s. Have the dog comfortably sit in the back seat (in a dog hammock). Go camping or any big ass road trip, or the beach or the mountains, with ease.

You can do it with the Vette. But it's a bigger pain almost always. That and I'm a tall motherfucker. NBA player height. Getting in and out of a low slung coupe wasn't bad... But doing it constantly would get old quick. This coming from a guy who lives for low cars. In the civic, its a breeze.

More room, more comfort, ability to be able to do shit with friends and family or whatever, ability to bring pets, haul shit, move shit, whatever.

If buying the CTR @MSRP and getting a Corvette well below - I’d choose the Corvette. Of course, the biggest delimitating factor is practicality...
Also, if it is daddy’s dollar then the sky is the limit. No need to grow up anytime soon.
At 24 I was in a Saturn SC2

Thank you for your message, it’s a 2017 Black M3. Funny story on how I wound up with it, my dad bought it drove it for a month or two and said he doesn’t want to drive manual anymore. He went out and bought a jaguar F Type. I’m trying to be a little more responsible than him though and get cars that make me smile but don’t kill me financially. I mean he makes significantly more than I probably ever will and can afford to make mistakes. I just want to have something fun. I never considered a corvette in my price range and that’s why I’ve been looking at the type r which I really enjoyed test driving. I think it’ll all come down to what’s available come September/October when Honda is supposedly launching the 2020. I should be responsible and just get a normal civic, but I gotta have fun sometime and feel good about being able to drive something cool. I have lived off my parents money too long and I’m ready to move on now that I’m done with school. It is exciting to even be able to consider either of these great cars. Either way though I am getting a new car and it’ll finally be mine!

My dad's got a 2015 Z51 convertible with A8 transmission and I have a '17 M7 Z06.

You can get HUGE discounts on these cars if they're leftover 1 model year old cars. I got 21% off MSRP brand new on my 2017 because it sat in their showroom for a year.

They come with great warranties and they're not that expensive if something happens to break. You'll go through more money when it comes to gas and tires. You'll be really uncomfortable if tall or overweight.

If it's got magnetic ride then the adjustability is amazing. You can run touring mode for the shocks with track mode exhaust level, and sport mode steering wheel feel.

Best part of buying a new vette is you get to go to Ron Fellows corvette driving school and take a duplicate of the car you purchased around Spring mountain motorsports park for 2 days for only $1000.

I’ve had my eyes on the Type R for awhile now and have just been patiently waiting the 2020 model year announcement to start making move. However, i just recently did a random search on autotrader for the 2019 corvette stingray. I was amazed by the discounts they’re offering. I’m assuming it’s from the amount on lots and the anticipated release of the C8. I know it isn’t the same car at all, but from the prices I saw, it isn’t that big of a jump to get one. Now I don’t know what to do. I know a corvette isn’t anywhere near as practical though and Id feel weird being 24 driving one. Not sure why I’m writing this now, just wanted some people’s opinions I guess.
Late to the party, but I feel like the CTR is definitely going to be a better DD. If you're planning on tracking a car, fast car fast is better than slow car fast. However, if you'll be carving mountain roads, slow car fast is better than fast car slow :p Vette would be faster in a straight line. I also want to say that the CTR will depreciate less than the Vette over time.

always going to get biased opinions on a dedicated forum for certain models.I bet you post this in a vette forum, you'd get totally different answer.

with that said, the C7s are great. Handles well, faster and better sounding than a CTR. The downside would be the interior. The C7s interior is a big step up from older Fords but it still not that good imo.
As a daily though? You don't really have much space in the vette so a CTR would do a better job at that.
What does a Corvette interior have to do with a Ford's?
