Thank you for this. This was just on the passenger side correct, no repair done on the driver? Was the driver side checked?

Found it! Jeffery Honda here in Michigan was able to help diagnose the issue and then order the replacements. Completed the repair today and wow. Entirely different world of difference in sounds.

As explained to me and as you can see in the photos... the strut itself has the plate on the top and seal running around it. That seal failed causing water to enter... that green color sealant is normally white which they believe has rusted inside causing the green hue and thus all the noise.

Big help from that dealership!!
Awesome find. I just find it crazy that, if this is the same issue happening on all of Civic Si and Type-R's, that it's failing so soon. Mine was making this noise with only 10 miles on it! Definitely keep us posted long-term.

Drove an additional 30 miles today and over lots of low speed bumps. The car literally sounds like a different vehicle.

Yes, I’ve experienced exactly what you described, when pulling in the driveway. It immediately gets my attention, and is intermittent. I would describe the sound as a spring popping. I have 4600 miles.

I’m not worried because it does not happen often, and I expect it to get worse if it’s failing, and there’s plenty of warranty left.
How's the suspension now? Just got my Type R about a month ago and I noticed it happening a few times. Spring popping is exactly how I would describe it as well. Only happened when i was driving at low speeds.

Happens to me as well, when turning into a driveway where i feel like i'm three wheeling it due to the angle. Typically at gas stations where the driveway leads to a higher ground level. A little disconcerting as i feel it through the brake pedal as well.

My CTR has 1500 miles on it. Last week, I started experimenting the same noises described by many of you in this thread.

Squeaking, clanking, and metal rubbing noises coming from the front suspension at very low speeds of 5 to 10 mph, best audible with the windows up. I found a bumpy back road near the dealership at Seaside, CA where I could replicated the noises and I took a technician for a ride; after the technician heard the noises too, he took the car in

They found out that the front driver-side anti-roll-bar fastener bolt had come undone and had dislodged in a subframe hole caused the knocking noises, and the squeaking noises came from the loose sway-bar mount. The torqued everything to specs and returned the car.

So far I've not been hearing any of those noises.

Did you experience the noises by just slow drive through a bumpy road or you had to slightly engage breaks to get it?

I have a new noise that is slightly different than the previous one. I wonder if my fastener bolt as also come undone! It would make perfect sense. I was going to drop it off at the dealership in the next couple weeks for warranty on the noise since I'm getting close to 30k miles on it.

I heard the noise by just going slow over bumpy pavement without any application of breaks.

possible the strut bearing was damaged from shipping the cars here the gm cars like the gto and g8 suffered similar issues because they strap the cars down to tight on the boats that they damaged the strut mounts.

Have an appointment on the 13th for my ~4400 mile CTR. Car is kept clean which probably makes water get into the strut areas, faster (Washed 2-3 times a week). Low speed clunking which is like not a loud clunk but not a rattle, started about a month ago. I pulled the rubber covers off the struts tops today....ewww. That's not normal.

Guessing the same thing and mounts/seals are leaking water into them. No reason those Allen bolts should look like that at this time or with the noise. Originally I thought it was cooler temps. causing it, but now see it's liekly both...aka, corrosion. I'll get the dealer to replace and carry on. Shit happens but come on Honda...those are expensive suspension components.

Took it in today. Dealership is ordering two whole front strut assemblies for the car. Duplicated the noise, didn't even bother ripping anything apart as they had this forum and pics for reference. Everything was tight and at the correct torque.
