Hey guys!

Just signed up for my first track day in my 18 Si. SCCA Track night in America at Atlanta Motorsports park in May!

Prep will be kept to a minimum because I know I am the worst part of this car, but I will be doing brake fluid and pads for sure.

My question is: can i just replace the pads and leave the stock rotors in place? I've got 8k miles on the car right now. Or should I buy new pads and rotors and then keep those pads and rotors matched for future use?

Alternatively: Should i just put an aggressive street pad on new rotors and drive those daily? Im sure they would be dirtier but I wouldn't mind that too much.

Thanks in advance!

You could do either!

For me i Like keeping my pads matched to rotors so when i do a track day this summer ill be buying a set of pads and rotors for the car.

I do know some that just swap pads at the track but to each their own.

EDIT: Just realized you don't have an R. I'm not sure how the SI brakes will hold up in comparison to the CTR.

I just did my first track day a few weeks ago.

I used the stock pads, stock rotors, and all season tires at the track day (pads and rotors had about 13K on them). I was able to get a full day out of the existing pads and rotors, especially because I was a newbie, and then replaced the pads with OEM and resurfaced the rotors.

My instructor kept telling me to be more aggressive with braking and I thought I was already hammering on them and they held up just fine.

I may at the same Road Atlanta event. My car is setup for autocross, so just Hawk 5.0s because rotors would take me out of GS. I did one event with the Si last year at AMP with the stock break setup. It help up surprisingly well. Because the SCCA track nights are only 3 sessions, you will probably be ok with the stock setup too (even pads, the hem pads are surprisingly good). Especially if you're in the novice group. It gets pretty busy on track and you probably won't be pushing it too hard.

Where in NC are you? You should come out to some Highlands Sports Car Club autocross events too. First one is next Tuesday evening.

Dude I'm already signed up! I haven't autocrossed for 10 years, I'm so excited to get back into it. I'll see you there!

The car is great with race pads but the ventilation is not the best. Every event I go, I always destroy the rotors. Would recommend you have some spares. Buy them on Rockauto. If you have the oem all weather tires. You might want to look for other tires. Good luck and have fun.

Lol! Well why did you sell your car at the same time I bought a house - this is your fault!

For what it’s worth - Hawk 5.0 pass with Hawk fluids held up great for me at Atlanta motorsports park and I’m still running them on my car now.

The caveat is that I am definitely a novice so I was not pushing as hard as some people could have. Have you tried slotted or drilled discs @Hellraisingvtec ? Just curious if it made a difference. Have you looked into adding some cooling ducts?
