Ugh I guess I'll buy this honda extended warranty for 800 then
I wouldn't give em another dime if they don't even uphold their manufacturer's warranty! Unless you get supplemental from another company, but that'd be a third party when YOU should be the primary beneficiary of any reparations. Those could in fact put your policy holder ahead of you for receipt of funds, unless all that policy does is pay legal costs...unlikely if it's from Honda however.

Look up your state's Lemon Law requirements. FL says I have to take it to them 3 times to give ample opportunity to fix, then it goes to arbitration. I've seen other posts here saying even arbitration didn't help, but I'm doing very detailed documentation of every contact with them and would ultimately like to build a case with other owners to supplement this as a known design flaw to Honda & prove their non-response. Given this is an issue with basically all new Civics, we should have enough to build a class-action case even & force a recall/corrective action.

Shame they don't do their customers right on their own.

(I'm not a lawyer & advise you seek a consult on this...first consults are usually free BTW)

Here's an update to my previous post.

After 4 months of no issues, the chirping sound returned a couple of weeks ago. I took my Civic back into the dealer and they diagnosed the same issue. The condenser will need to be replaced, again.

The dealer also stated that they can't do the repair right now because the part is on back order, and that Honda is "well aware of the problems with these condensers".

Hopefully, Honda has a re-engineered condenser by now. There's no point in replacing a bad part with a new bad part.

Cheers!

Well, here's what happened to mine...

2017 Civic coupe 2.0 (10,000km)

The sound I heard from the dash was like 20 sparrows chirping in a tree, but muted. It could be heard when the a/c compressor was working, but not when a/c was turned off.

Invoice from repair reads:

Vehicle needs follow-up a/c diagnosis and leak testing for a/c system, as per previous invoice. Customer reports there is a chirping noise at stationary and also when driving
a/c noise. Connected a/c machine and confirmed refrigerant level is low. Visually inspected all a/c components and found condenser to have signs of leaks. Confirmed condenser is leaking. Replaced a/c condenser. Installed new o-rings. Performed leak test and passed. System can hold vacuum. Charged system and added oil. Turned a/c on and noise is gone.

My repair was completed under warranty.

If you hear that chirping, it's a good indicator that your refrigerant is leaking out, and given the reported problems with condensers in these cars, that's a good place to start looking for leaks.

Yep. Add my 2017 Si to the AC/ condenser problems list.
After 3 days of troubleshooting, 2 leaks, and a special order AC "fuse" of some kind. Now, awaiting a condenser to arrive.

If there had been a recall, the dealer and I would have been spared much time and headache.

Thanks corporate Honda!!

I imagine they're taking a pretty big financial hit for those airbag recalls. If so, our cries about these legit faulty factory condensers fall on deaf ears.

The worst part? The PRIMARY reason and justification for even buying this new car was my DC2 gsr had no working AC. Miss both those cars:cry: and that :flame:VtEc KicK YoOoo!!

Add another 2018 Civic LX 2.0 to the list of A/C problems. Have noticed a chirping sound and got them to check it. They say they are replacing the condenser under warranty. Good news is they have it in stock and are telling me I can pick it up tomorrow. I have noticed that the car has not cooled that great since new but noticing it more now that temperature is heating up. Tech said that it was leaking refrigerant. Purchased new and has 25000 miles. Adviser hinted that it would be a warranty item unless it was damaged by a collision so will be really aggravated if they try and not cover under warranty when I pick it up.

Update:
Repaired under warranty in 1 day. Replaced Compressor, coil set (whatever that is) and clutch.
Can't complain about service. Just hoping does not happen again in 25000 more miles because was told no additional warranty on new components. Just remainder of 3 year 36000 miles bumper to bumper...

There are different issues which accure in air conditioner and which cause the improper functioning of it. To get the proper function and to know the complete default in your AC call the repair man from A+ Refrigeration Heating & an Air Conditioning and make the working of your Ac sleek and smooth.

I questioned the service manager about the condenser, this was his reply:
Our technician spent time on the entire system, we checked the condenser, compressor and complete system for any leaks or issues/failures – the whole system check out well within specification and was operating normally. We also changed the relay that controls the A/C system just incase because we have seen issues with them in the past. If we could find something faulting we would have repaired it or replaced a part – the unfortunate issue is that unless we can find a fault we’re not allowed to replace things under warranty
After a few more visits to the dealership and videotaping the temperature going from 42 to over 90 in about 10 minutes, they are going to replace the condenser. I sure hope this works

Hi. I am a new member and just joined because of this issue. I received an invoice for $2,500 to repair the condenser on my 2016 Civic Ex-L. I was shocked to see how many people are experiencing this issue and wondered if this is in-fact an environmental concern as the cars are leaking refrigerant. I am in California and contacted the CalEpa who confirmed this is an environmental issue but they need enough people to complain in order to urge Honda to issue a recall. For anyone experiencing this issue, I urge you to contact the EPA with your experience and be sure to mention that you know others are also having this. I am stuck paying for my repair as it just fell out of warranty in February but am pursing the issue with the EPA not only for our environment but for other owners to hopefully have their repairs handled. I also recommend tweeting Honda so they are fully aware of this issue.

2017 civic sedan 2.0 weak ac just experienced this as the summer temps rised, i had AC temp in low and max fan and was still hot while driving. Talked to some honda techs and they say most likley condenser as they have been getting tons of civics in for ac problems.

Mine broke again. This will be the second time it broke. This time it is not under warranty anymore. The repair is not even 1 year old. And I fixed it at the end of summer/warranty. So, I just got to use my AC again. Terrible design. I have the Honda Civic 2016

Now what i heard from the techs, if you are out of warranty call directly to honda headquarters and there's chance they will warranty the ac repair as they are fully aware of this problem but i am not 100% if it works as i haven't tried it yet and its from techs suggestion.

You can try, but don't hold your breath. The whole so called "environmental concern" about refrigerants is really fake, and is not used to bother the manufacturers.
All residential A/C in the US eventually leaks, although it doesn't need to. Both because of cheap design/incompatible materials/lack of corrosion protection, and installation by people often lacking skills and integrity. The EPA never cared about any standards of build quality of AC systems, instead they focus on helping the HVAC business get richer.

Same issue with my Civic 2016 at 50,000 miles. Rock took out my AC condenser?? This is a weak component or design flaw. I was told it was like rock hitting windshield. I guess my condenser is made from glass too!! I am not happy with a $700 bill on a 3 year old car. Will probably look into other cars in the future and wonder what to do with this one, now.
