I just want to ask if you have Honda Care, do you really have to have your maintenance done with the dealer? Because for example if you get the 8yr/120K miles Honda Care then that means you'll go spend a fortune for maintenance with the dealer.

For example

A Honda dealer near me just ramped up there prices:

Service A full synthetic oil change to $69.99
Service A1 full synthetic to $119.99 (year right, $50 more just for rotating tires)
Service B1 full synthetic to $179.99 (which involves a lot of just "looking" or "inspecting" and break pad cleaning, which probably they don't do, a total package rip off)
Service B12 full synthetic to ....I'm not even going to say anymore.

I got the 8yr/120K Honda Care but if Honda Care requires you to have your car maintained by the dealer, you'll end up outrageous spending for maintenance. Especially if you drive a lot and the 120K miles Honda Care is what you really after.

What you guys think?

Factory warranty can only be voided if the current failure is due to the lack of maintenance. Maintenance just has to be done, not specifically at a Honda Dealer. It is obviously easier to prove if you do it at a dealer but not a definitive requirement.

If you bought an extended warranty at your dealership it may be a unique product, whatever they call it not backed by Honda. Due to this, take the time to read the fine print. Warranties are fabulous money making products due to the low failure rates of Honda’s in general, but they are also great retention tools. Know what you need to do to ensure you remain covered

You're right, I should've done that. I pulled out my Honda Care contract and it turns out Honda Care doesn't require you to bring your car to the dealership:

III. YOUR OBLIGATIONS

A. YOU must retain all MAINTENANCE RECORDS (the original receipts or invoices confirming all maintenance has been performed during the period YOU have owned or leased YOUR VEHICLE) as they may be requested from YOU. Failure to perform any maintenance service(s) may result in the denial of coverage if a MECHANICAL BREAKDOWN is caused by YOUR failure to properly maintain YOUR VEHICLE.

And

IV. WHAT IS NOT COVERED

J. Any REPAIR COST:

- If YOU fail to provide all MAINTENANCE RECORDS for covered parts requiring routine maintenance that sustain a MECHANICAL BREAKDOWN.

So I guess keeping the receipt when I buy my own oil, oil filter and engine air filter when the Maintenance Minder says its due will keep my engine covered for 120K miles.

I think doing oil change on your own will still count as its specified in the owners manual that it is something the owner can do completely fine by laying out every step how to do the oil change.

And as for the transmission coverage, it looks like I'll still be the shop's or dealer's bitch at it says in the owners manual in page 567:

"Have a dealer check the fluid level and replace if necessary.
Do not attempt to check or change the manual transmission fluid
yourself."

And

"Specified fluid: Honda Manual Transmission Fluid (MTF)"

So receipt that my transmission fluid change has been done by shop or dealer is a must for this part. And it looks like I'll never experience the joy of Amsoil Synchromesh.

Does it say all of this in the owners manual or warranty manual? I don’t think I read the warranty manual since it usually just states common sense stuff

Top half is from Honda Care Contract. The part where I started to write down about transmission coverage is in the owner's manual.

Yep...called Honda Care and they said doing your own oil change won't void your extended warranty as long as you document when you did it, what's the mileage, receipts of both oil and oil filter. The oil should be what says on the manual and as for the oil filter not really required to be genuine honda oil filter, as long as you use an oil filter that is meant for your car

I would think you need to follow the user manual's called out factory maintenance..

I wouldn't bend to a dealership just randomly quoting things.

Yo guys. I have a 2017 CTR. I have Honda Care. Been going to them for motor oil changes when indicated to do so. So I've had 4 oil changes at the dealerships. I wanted them to change my manual transmission oil but the bastards initially said they dont do it till after 20k. And when I just came in for the most recent oil change at about 24k they said they dont do it till 30k miles.. ok whatever. So have any of yall changed your transmission oil? And what did yall use?
