Ah but there is a difference. Its not that the "its just a civic" is said. In the manor of which you say it, its not a negative thing. You are proud of your civic and that it only cost 35k to get what you did. My issue, which I have clarified several times is the dismissive ones that when they know your "just a civic" can out perform their _____ fill in 50k plus car. They get but hurt and go for what they perceive as an insult "well so its just a civic". As if the brand or name of their slower car makes it somehow better then "just a civic". I actually got snarky with a guy last night at a meet. I normally don't in real life :) but 200 cars I was only R and he started oh I want something better and blah blah blah ive seen videos and blah blah blah its a Honda blah blah blah. So I was what is it you want to get? He goes oh Im looking at a mustang because they are so different.... UM? so all I said was different? Like my only type R and the 75 Mustangs that are here right now? I think he got the point and became a little less trash talking about the R before walking off.
Those people who get dismissive are simple - ignore them. Don't even worry about what they think or say as they have already used actual words to prove they have no idea on what they speak. It's actually convenient when/if people take that type of approach to my car - I didn't have to waste any time in getting to a conclusion. And the thing is, you won't change their minds. And, it's not just cars. I have several hobbies (cooking, audio gear, cars, golf) and in EVERY hobby, you have people like this. Maybe because I'm used to it it just rolls off my back but in the end, they're going to think what they want and are blissfully ignorant to reality.

It's the folks who take the opposite approach who are worth worrying about as they probably have a lot more valuable information to share.

I gotta admit... whenever people ask me what I drive, I always say ā€œjust a newer Civicā€. To those close to me, yeah Iā€™ll go into detail with those who are into cars, but thatā€™s only a fraction of people. In general, people either donā€™t care that itā€™s a Type R because they have no idea what that even means, or people start saying Iā€™m rich and earn too much money. Fuck em all.

There are those who are genuinely interested in it, and ask about it. Iā€™ll always make the time... I love shooting the shit about any sort of car.

But beyond that, donā€™t kid yourself, Harlaquin- it is just a 35k Civic. You really care too much about other peopleā€™s opinions. Opinions are like buttholes. Everyone has one. We live in the world of craving and being addicting to getting ā€œlikesā€ on social media, and hoping people respect our cars, lol. Seriously... who cares? Iā€™d drive the Oscar Meyer wiener mobile as a daily, if it was engaging to drive. Fuck what all the haters say.

Agree. But come on you would so drive the wiener mobile for the attention. Really though my opions aren't as strong or what others think worried about as much as my post may lead on too. I just see the same blah blah posts and just try and liven it up a bit . And who knows while people are here debating with me they browse the other more important threads and give a helping hand that might other wise not of come here.

"It is just a 35K Civic at the end of the day" has to be one of the most ignorant statements anyone makes.

How about this then,
The Ford Shelby GT500 is just a Mustang at the end of the day!
The Hellcat is just a Challenger at the end of the day!
The Camaro ZL1 is just a Camaro at the end of the day!
ā€¦ and so on.
<snip>

I agree, but what I wanna know is where in the heck did you get one for $35K?!

What else can you buy for 35k new that's as perfornance oriented that has 4doors though? If it was any luxury brands they would be the frowned upon models c class, 3series, 1 series a3 etc. Enjoy what you have forget everything else
Exactly why I got mine, having a 1 year old and all. it was the perfect balance between fun and practicality for me. One of only few sports cars that have 4 doors. The Type R seems to have way more room inside than all the muscle cars. And I heard horror stories from coworkers about getting less than 10 MPG on their 8 cylinder mustangs when they decide to let them loose. I have a hard time getting my Type R under 20. Plus I live north of Philly where all the roads are windy and narrow - much better suited to these types of cars.

I feel I got immense value for $35k. It's not even that much in the world of sports cars. I actually had a budget of about $50-$60k for a car but didn't think that extra money was worth something like the Audi S4. I don't need that luxury and never gave a crap about having the badge.

For Father's Day, my wife (OMG how'd I get so lucky!) got me this Porsche Package at a racetrack here in Vegas, I got to drive 3 different Porsche 911's with an instructor for a total of about 20 laps around the Vegas Speed track. After the first 5 laps I have to say I wasn't so impressed, I told the instructor my Type R actually has much better brakes AND to tell the honest truth: better handling! The 6 cyl 911 is faster accelerating down the straight-away, but with weaker brakes than the lighter Type R I had to start braking way before I would have with the Type R--which more than negated the Porsche's HP advantage. I left the track with a new appreciation for my awesome Type R.

I think it is great that we got such a fun usable car at a great price.
One of my mentors in business who was very wealthy gave me an excellent piece of advice, "any idiot can overpay something"

On different note, I was at the food store parking lot the other day and this nice old lady (around 80 I guess) in a CRV goes out of her way, pulls up along side me and asks , "what kind of car is that. did you have to order it custom?" I tell her what it is and she says "that car is gorgeous!"
