With no rack on the top, I'm looking at being dependent on rentals for getting sheet material--ply wood and the like. Towing is an evil, per the manual... Note: I've been happy with interior capacity thus far for bulk items. I've moved a mower, power washer, snowblower, and mature indoor tree, even a shelving set that spanned the full length. But moving anything of length that surpasses the width of the fold-down back seats is a no-go.

Is mounting a hitch to the frame, and using a basket to move cargo still towing? The frame gets at least tapped, so even if removed it'll be evident. I just hate playing tetris with big stuff. The dealership I bought from is a wee ignorant of the ins and outs of the treatment and warranty on my leather interior. Is carrying well under the 2000lbs I've seen the mounts rated for without the car jammed full an actual concern? I wonder if this use is legally protected w/r the warranty (US).

Anyone with experience? My alt is to seek a small Korean truck for a (ins) low mile hualer.

You could just order some plywood off amazon!

I have a hitch and as far as the dealer knows, it's only used for a bike rack.
That being said, I also have a small trailer that I use to haul things just like you mentioned.
There's nothing like seeing a lowered Civic pulling a trailer!;)

Once again do whatever you want but if the mod is deemed the root cause of whatever failure your warranty will be voided

CVT's are not the ideal transmission for hauling stuff.
You will probably be shortening it's life if you tow anything heavy.

everyone assumes bad things about towing. Its a US thing that makes no sense. The max capacity is calculated based on the tire capacity. Then they go on to say that any trailer weigh should be transferred to the vehicle weight capacity. Such red tape.
Look at the UK user manual if you want to know what Honda suggests about towing. I tow pretty often a 300lb trailer pulling a 900lb bike. It really has no problem. In fact it does so well it's tempting to drive like your not pulling but common sense should kick in and take it easy. Like with any car.

US/Canada Hatchback manual says:
"Your vehicle is not designed to tow a trailer. Attempting to do so can void your warranties."

Clearly, a European or Turkish civic can pull a trailer while an American civic can't. According to manuals, a European or Turkish civic, even CVT 1.6L NA, can pull a heavier trailer (if it has brakes) than an American CR-V (1500 lb max).

How else do you sell a nation on F350 pick ups unless you say towing with a car is bad ;) ... cause clearly, everyone needs an F350 to haul 5 sheets of plywood home from the Home Depot :D

Add a hitch... most likely a class I rated for about 1500lbs.. or a bike carrier.

If towing a lot of weight, a lot more frequently, consider additional transmission cooler.. or budget transmission work down the line.

lol you got it...exactly!

The hitch was easy to install and I went with the type that fastens to the bumper mounts.

So yeah I'm watching it. It really isn't a strain on the car at all. While I don't have a trans temp gauge I feel confidant that it isn't raising the temp much especially taking it easy. It pulls at 65 with no effort.
I trans cooler is just another part and point of failure so if is isn't necessary I'd rather avoid it.
I still get 23-25 mpg avg.

Yes, but I thought Honda was one of those car companies which are still trying to push some sedans on people.....

Seems like in particular in the US the SUV's/trucks are winning big way and killing the sales of such great cars as the accord or the civic. So maybe Honda would try to show how much utility there is in a sedan.
But no. If you want to tow in America, get a SUV. Helllll, they don't even make a roof rack accessory for the civic to carry a tiny kayak or a surfboard....

Well, the truth is that different Honda car teams are to some extent independent and they compete with each other. If someone buys a CR-V, a passport or a pilot instead of a civic, there is no harm to Honda.
