Hi all,

I would like to add a 12v accessory with a dedicated switch. What it is, are led lighting strips. The accessory from the manufacturer is to be plugged into a 12v plug and that has its own switch on it.

I want to hard wire the led strips to its own switch and circuit, thus avoiding using up the 12v plug, and also hiding the wires. I want to put a dedicated switch to the left of the steering wheel, where I have blanks. (traction control button area) I do understand that I’ll have to cut and splice up the cables from the accessory, but that’s ok, I know I have to do that to accomplish this.

I’m not sure what the best route would be as wiring this is would be. Any guidance would be much appreciated. I don’t know if I can go to the fuse box, or directly to the battery with a relay. I would like to do the most efficient solution. I’m new to car wiring, but I would like to learn.

The car is 2016 civic ex-t

Pretty simple dude, I just did something similar with my dash cam, worked great :)
My wiring was slightly different as I tapped two different fuses to one switch to toggle between accessory only and always on (parking) mode.

You need a 1NO1NC latching switch. This one has an LED on it. Button pushed = LED on and circuit live. Button not pushed = LED off and circuit dead. This one came with a pigtail harness which makes it so much easier. If you don't want LED function, simply leave the + wire empty, and don't tap it to the NO wire. This fits nicely into the large blank button down by the VSA control etc.

You'll also need mini ATM fuse taps for the interior fuse box. You'll tap this into Fuse #1 (accessory).

Then just wire it up like I've shown you below. Not an electrician by any means so excuse my mangled diagram.:p

Any questions just let me know.

Oh my! Very descriptive! thank you. I’ll order the parts and I’ll probably have more questions when I actually do this. But for, I see that you have a tap in between acc fuse and switch. What do you mean by that? Is that a splice because I obviously have to add wire to the fuse cable?

Tap is probably the wrong word. Hadn't had my coffee yet :p
You'll have a loose wire off the fuse tap and a loose wire (Common) off the switch - solder them together.

maybe another noob question, but wheres that fuse located(#1)? we are talking about that fuse box panel like almost right beside the car battery, right? (refer to picture)

and also too, is there a direct, easy path i can wire from that box to inside my car? like where would that be? (for routing the switch inside)
