Apk doesn't install on stock 2019 civic EX-L head unit. I likely won't be buying it since I'll have to install Honda hack and that made the unit run ridiculously slow.

Idk what the point of the wireless charger is for if the radio doesn’t support wireless CarPlay/android auto because of software.
It supports audio through Bluetooth without having to use Android auto. So you could drop your phone on the pad and not have to worry about wires. Android auto's only real use I can see is getting the phone out of your hand and making you look at the HUD instead.

Off topic but do any Apple users have any issues with car play lately?

I was driving my gf 18 hatchbackfor two weeks, and suddenly the car play stopped working. Says device not responsive and it doesn’t even charge
My iPhone X is working on the latest version of iOS. I would try a different cable, preferably an original Apple lightning cable.

You have to look at things in the timeline of car development.
Android Auto had only even been announced for a few months before the 10th generation Civic began shipping.
It had been in development probably 5 years before that.
Including wireless charging was the state of tech when they began developing the car.
By the time it was released only a few only cars on the market had wired CarPlay, and even even fewer had android auto and no car had wireless versions of either.
Cut to now and it’s still the case that no mass manufactured car offers wireless car play and no car at all seems to offer wireless android auto. Only aftermarket players are filling that gap.
So it may seem like it doesn’t make sense on the surface but it makes perfect sense given how little the car has changed since it’s release in late 2015.

Honda hack doesn't make the head unit slow at all. Been running it for a while now and there's absolutely no difference between the stock headunit performance and the hacked head unit performance.

I ran it for 2 months. The start up time was slower for me and it seemed to make things a bit more laggy. Regardless the APK doesn't work stock.

Tried that

Will try that
I have been dealing with this same issue for over a year. After many attempts at figuring it out, reboots, etc, I found what I believe to be the main culprit --> the lightning port on my 2.5+ year old Iphone is wearing out, getting dirty and not making a good connection with the lightning cable. So basically I try to clean my lightning port with compressed air every couple weeks or so and it helps out. Ultimately I may look to see if I can replace the port.

Honestly I prefer the USB CarPlay rather than Wireless in some cases.

I used to have the Alpine iLX-107 in my 02 Acura TL and it came with wireless CarPlay. I thought it was great (that is why I paid so much money for that HU). However after switching to the USB CarPlay in my Civic, it is so much more reliable and smoother. Maybe it was the issue with the iLX but the animations and interface was much slower over Wireless. Also there were many cases where CarPlay would either not connect due to some Wi-Fi, Bluetooth issue (where the only solution was to restart both the phone and the HU) or where CarPlay would just disconnect after a long drive. That was the most annoying thing, especially when I needed the navi. The only solution to that was to restart the HU which worked sometimes. But most times I had to turn the car on and off as the HU locked up.

I don't have those issues with the wired CarPlay in the Civic's HU. Maybe the HU's software is better but either way the graphics are much smoother with responsiveness and animations. I don't mind plugging in my phone that much.

I ordered one over the weekend, June 22nd ETA; a heads-up that the same unit looks to be on EBay for a few dollars cheaper if you want to stretch your pennies.

I went with the Amazon option for a few bucks more...if it’s a dud I’d rather deal with Amazon returns than mail it back to China & wait.

Heads up as others have said before you can not install the APK on the head-unit without Honda Hack. I installed it today no problem. Just waiting on the device to finally ship.

Short Version: I have to admit I’m kinda shocked...it works!

Long Version: My head-unit was already rooted/HondaHacked. No issues installing the apk. No issues with the app (it’s not exactly great looking, but you only need look at it during setup and very briefly on launch).

Connecting was a little wonky. Bluetooth was found and pairing was simple. The phone connects to the dongle via Bluetooth, then your phone connects to the dongle via WiFi automagically. Finally, the phone asks if you want to allow CarPlay (and states the dongle name). On my initial run through the process everything worked, CarPlay connected wirelessly.

After an intentional disconnect, however, I couldn’t get my phone to reconnect again. The head-unit app saw my phone, connected via Bluetooth, but then failed to connect by WiFi. Repeated attempts to connect, even restarting my phone and head-unit, failed. I deleted the CarPlay “Vehicle” (dongle) on my phone’s CarPlay settings and restarted the pairing process. From there it’s been solid — after restarts of the car and restarts on my phone, it’s been consistently wirelessly CarPlaying happily.

There is a slight lag when pause/playing music (nothing terrible, just comparing it to wired behavior...it’s seriously a split second). I had trouble using Siri; I didn’t mess with it more than a few times, but it seemed like summoning her by holding the on-screen Home button didn’t actually work 100% of the time. Yelling “hey Siri” did seem to work fine, and that’s fine for my purposes. Likewise, Siri reading texts and Waze giving audio directions seemed ok in my limited testing tonight.

Awesome, thanks for the insight! Curious to know about battery drain.
