The LX factory sound system is not very good, so I plan to upgrade in stages. Morel speakers are on order.
I was considering adding a subwoofer in the factory rear window deck location.
It looks like I would have to cut the hole for it and cut a grille opening in the plastic cover. Dynamat or similar looks like a good idea.
Looked around and did not see what size fits nice. What size is the factory subwoofer for the models that have them?

It'll be hard getting good sound quality out of a rear deck free air sub like the ones present in the premium system. But! There are options. The factory sub is 8", but rather than cutting a hole for the grill you're better off buying the rear deck cover for factory subs from a honda part website. It'll be a bit annoying. This will be a good sub for putting in that spot https://www.infinityspeakers.com/subwoofers/Infinity+Reference+Flex+Woofer+8d.html
Not the best sub out there but for factory replace and what you're trying to do its pretty good.

Though in my personal opinion the time/money is better spent just getting an aftermarket sub and box and stuff.

Thanks for the great advice!. I was considering buying the factory deck cover since it's only $75 or so.
I can see where a free air sub is not optimal, but I'm not really planning on rattling windows, just a modest increase in bass. I figure I can always fab an enclosure under the rear deck if need be,

I added two things to my Hatchback Sport to help improve sound quality, I purchased the tweeter housings for the front door from the higher trim levels and installed JBL tweeters and Cerwin Vega underseat 10 inch powered sub woofer. The tweeters look factory installed and the subwoofer is hidden but those two combined have definitely improved the sound. The sub woofer I installed under the driver's seat and it has a wired control so you can adjust the bass on the fly. I really like the fact, when music has a lot of bass it is minor butt massager.;) The sub woofer may not be as powerful as a stand alone sub but it does the job without a lot of modifications other than wiring it to the battery. It really gives a more balanced sound effect than just having the door speakers.
