Like title says dont forget you get a yearly map update for the nav unit for free. My friends 2019 R still came with 2018 maps. The 2019 maps are out. Just go to this website and follow the directions. you will need a 16 gig to 32 gig usb pen formatted to fat 32. larger pens wont format correctly has to be fat 32 NOT exfat32 or ntsc. and use the usb port in the armrest and it does take some time to do. You will need a windows PC as far as I know

Here is the website https://honda.garmin.com/honda/site;jsessionid=D20B12564014F7EDF5A2338246E963E7

Depends on what your car needs. I downloaded at 17 megs a second and it still tool about 1 1/2 hours to download. Cause it stops to build maps. Then the install took about 30 mins. I put the usb in and drove around to do some running. Cant turn car off during i stall though. All in all mine was about 2 1/2 hours all in all. The longest part is the download to usb. Just put it in and go do something. The part you gotta be present for isnt that long.

Good to know, even though I pretty much only use Waze, I like having things updated

Thanks for this post - I never would have thought to check my map version this soon after buying my Type R. I got my 2019 CTR on April 24th and sure enough it only had the 2018 maps installed. I was a bit hesitant to do the update since it took the OP such a long time to complete it but my experience was completely different. The initial download from the Garmin installer only took me about 6 minutes. My download speed was about 36 MB/s so it didn't take very long. Also I think the biggest factor is what speed your USB or SD card is rated for. I chose to use an SD card that is rated as class 10. It's a Sandisk 32GB SD card and I used a USB adapter to connect it to my PC and the Honda.

I didn't need to have the car running to install the update either. I only pressed the start button twice to get into "On" mode where all the electrics are operating but the engine isn't on. The install only took me about 10 minutes and it was super easy to do. Thanks again OP!

How did you get "my maps" up on your head unit?
I rarely use my head unit so it takes me a long time to get around. Thanks

Waze. Never used the janky OEM nav after the first time. So clunky. Wish it wasn’t a forced option and we got something useful instead.

Go to Navigation - Hit "Menu" button - scroll down to "Settings" - "Map & Vehicle" - scroll down to "myMaps"

Did mine today. Took about 40 minutes to download the update to the USB drive. Took less than 20 minutes to install it to the head unit. My 2018 Hatch (built 6/18) still had the 2017 maps. Now maybe it'll be a bit more accurate. :)

My late year 2018 had the 2018 maps. I started the download and then came back a while later after watching the baseball game and it had completed. My connection is not the fastest so it took around 2 hours to download. The actual install in the car took 15 - 20 minutes using a regular SanDisk USB stick that I had laying around. It may even be USB 2.0.

Did my update on the weekend. After the 20 minute update in the car I received an 'update failed' message. Garmin site says to try the in car update again, so I did, and the 2nd time it worked

Went to update my maps, and shows I have 2018 maps. Get into Garmin Express and it says I have the latest update? Shows software version 4.00 & Map: US & Canada 2018.0 ?

Anyone run into this?
