I didn’t hear much of a positive feedback from people that had recall done on their cars. At this point, i could care less about the recall and will continue driving as is. Plus, there’s really no recalls for those civica that reside in texas
Exactly. My MT car has no trouble warming up up here in Canada, before and after tune.
But one has to do the fix because the extended warranty, I feel. On the other hand, don't want to repeatedly go to the dealer for AC malfunction in the summer... Maybe I'll go in the fall. Also haven't check if KTuner can work with the new reflash from the dealer.

Haven't looked to see if this has already been posted or not, so ignore if it has.
This Youtube video is the last of a series finished about 2 weeks ago where many of the most popular oil types have been tested and pitted against each other.

The final two contenders came down to Amsoil and Penn Ultra Platinum. The guy is NOT a shill. The test are NOT lab grade analysis...but are still interesting nonetheless.

Thanks for posting this.
Now I feel more stupid for sticking to Mobil1 after seeing so many UOA with elevated iron numbers and knowing how good Penn has been testing for the past years.

Back when I was very active in the bmw scene, the track guys have been sharing that Mobil 1 arent the best. They recommended Castrol over Mobil

Good to see the fuel count isn't negatively impacting your wear rates. Do you do a lot of idling or shorter trips?

Another solid UOA. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for replying! I always saw this thread and didn't think anyone would pay attention to a run-of-the-mill UOA.

I'm a university student, and during the school year, from August to December/January to May, I basically drive 42 miles on the highway five days a week. There are days where I drive city, but I try to always choose the highway since it is more fuel-efficient for me. I'd say 80/20 or even 85/15 in terms of Highway vs. City driving.

In regards to idling, since I live in South Florida, idling is a part of life for me. I try to mitigate this by turning off my engine when I get to a stoplight that I know will take around two minutes to turn green. No point in idling and wasting gas.

Just a quick heads up. My next oil change I will be using Amazon's 0W-20 Synthetic oil. I've heard good things about it and also its API rating that shows it's rating specifically made for small turbocharged engines, like my stock 1.5L, that are prone to low-speed pre-ignition.

What's the point of buying Amazon motor oil?

Today AmazonBasics 0W20 oil costs $22.99 for a 5qt jug at Amazon.com. Mobil 1 0W20 AFE oil costs $22.88 at Walmart.com.

Both are dexos1 Gen 2, API SN Plus, and ILSAC GF-5 approved, and no driver will ever be able to tell which one is "better" by just driving or reading other driver's opinions.

If you want claims and advertising, Exxon Mobil says:

"Other motor oils are being reformulated to meet API SN Plus, the new industry standard. Breaking news: Mobil 1™ motor oils have met the performance standard since 2010."

"Outstanding LSPI protection
Mobil 1™ motor oils provide outstanding protection against the damaging effects of low-speed pre-ignition (LSPI)."

"Turbo protection at 238.6 mph
Underground Racing pushes their turbocharged engines to record-breaking speeds. Hear how Mobil 1™ motor oil makes it possible. "

https://mobiloil.com/en/article/why-the-mobil-advantage/mobil-1-modern-engines/lspi-protection
https://mobiloil.com/en/article/why-the-mobil-advantage/mobil-1-modern-engines

So "you've heard good things about AmazonBasics oil, but somehow never heard good things about other oils branded by respectable companies which actually make them, and sold for the same price?

What logic would make anyone choose the oil made by an unknown oil company and branded by Amazon, because of internet anecdotes, over the oil made and branded by a specific major oil company which has real research laboratories and employs a number of real scientists and engineers, and has made oil forever? :dunno::dunno::dunno::hmm:

Two Cents says Amazon is contracting with a big brand supplier. ;)

All that aside, I wouldn't mind seeing a formal UOA on their mystery oil. If he's will to try it out, and report back his results, I see no foul in attempting to challenge Status Quo.

Checked my oil for the first time. Brand new car at 2000 km on the odometer. Oil level looks good. Checked after hot engine and waiting 3 minutes.

On the bottle, it says Amazon is manufactured by Warren Distribution. If you guys want, I can send an oil analysis of Amazon's 0W-20 synthetic oil fresh from the bottle. I'm pretty sure someone has already sent it though yeah?

I think it would be more beneficial to see how it holds up in a Honda motor under typical operation.

Results may be a tad skewed during your next interval as there could be residual Mobile 1 in the crankcase.

I'm not expecting things to be much different. But we try to keep an open mind until the data says otherwise.

For those using Mobil 1 should we be using Extended Performance or Advanced Fuel economy for the Si?
AFE did fine on the stock motor. I posted my UOA several pages back.

I recently added KTuner and stepped up to EP as a precaution. I will run another UOA after the 2nd interval.

Thanks for replying, @Design, I will send three oil analysis kits in the coming months. One will be my final UOA of the Mobil 1 0W-20 Extended Performance, one will be fresh out the bottle Amazon Synthetic 0W-20 oil (why not?), and the last one will be whenever I need to send in the Amazon Synthetic oil to get tested.

A quick note on the Mobil 1 Extended Performance currently in my vehicle, I can't remember if I mentioned it before. The oil itself was from the bottle on the previous oil change in the vehicle, about 7 months opened. I am not sure if this will have any impact on my analysis, but I will definitely make a comment about it when I send out the oil.
