Anyone bought Hondata Flashpro and then wish they had not?

Zero regrets sending money to Hondata, and that's even including the over and above cost of remote clone service.

That said, I'd be wary of anyone that swore up and down that one was absolutely better than the other with regards to Hondata VS Ktuner. Too many fanboys spouting BS without any actual facts, knowledge, or data to back it up. Go with whatever you or your tuner prefers, simple as that. ECU write access is ECU write access, one isn't going to make more power than the other in the hands of a capable tuner. I appreciate Hondata's attitude towards continued functionality development, so I went with them (timing based Traction Control is awesome!).

I don't regret it. I'm running the 91 octane base map with a catless downpipe and intercooler and my car runs great. Definitely a big difference from stock. The traction control works great too.

I've had my KTuner since I bought my SI back in 2017. Development for the 1.5T back then was incredible, and Hondata moved at a snail's pace by comparison. Now it seems that things have flipped (at least for the R).

I haven't unlocked the ECU on my R yet, but I'd always assumed that I'd just reuse my KTuner. Now I'm genuinely considering selling it for a Hondata. I do have concerns though. I love that KTuner's basemaps were built by Derek from IMW, and that they're designed with safety in mind. I've read about a few people who have encountered catastrophic issues using Hondata, and it's unclear why. Did they experiment with the wrong things, or are the basemaps geared
less towards safety?

if you don't touch anti lag, you should be fine. Most of the people who has had problems are ones that was using anti lag. Of course datalogging and looking at KR is key. I'm surprised about the amount of people who flash a base map and don't look at logs.

I haven't seen ktuners maps so i can't comment on them but Derek is a good tuner so i feel like they might have better base maps. They both can do the same thing when custom tuned though.

Thanks. I'm hoping that TC eventually comes to KTuner for the R (they've had it for the 1.5T for some time). My hope is to eventually get custom tuned with FBO, and when I do, I'd love to not have to limit the low end torque as much.

yeah i can't say for sure cause i don't have experience with ktuners base maps.
Best thing to do is get custom tuned though. base maps are just base maps in the end. You can always get an etune through Derek. He can tune on both ktuner and flashpro. On this car, it seems like you don't need as much revisions to get it perfect compared to how the older K series was also. (i did like 30+ revisions with vit on my 9th gen).

I agree with you on the low end torque. I like the torque shove but having it ramp up is just much safer on the motor.

For those of you who've switched from Ktuner to Hondata, did you need to send your ECU to Hondata or did Ktuner's unlock work for both platforms? Hondata's site says it may work...

I think there were some early issues with KTuner's "reset to factory" or whatever, and the unlock needed to be redone. But I can say I had no such issues. I made sure I was on the latest KTuner software, reset it to factory, and plugged in FlashPro which allowed me to lock to the ECU right away.

I want to get Hondata, but not sure due to voiding warranty.
How safe are the Hondata stock tunes? In terms of things blowing up, or causing other issues. (93 tune)

Nope, my ecu was unlocked by KTuner and I just switched to Hondata and it works fine.
I might be going this route myself if KTuner doesn't start catching up.
I think both companies do a good job, however Hondata is offering up a lot of goodies right now.

It's pretty clear Hondata is the go to platform for the R and KTuner for the 1.5 turbo models.

If I'm guessing here, I'm thinking Hondata owns a Type R (for R&D) and maybe KTuner doesn't?
