Good Day,
I own a 2019 Touring Coupe and I'm having a problem with USB music files. I'm going to refer to files as songs.
I have about 500 songs on a USB stick. All songs are recognized and will play.
HOWEVER - Random songs for no apparent reason, will stop playing part way through. It just stops, I have to manually change the track and go to the next song.
Every few weeks I'll replace the defective songs with a fresh copy from my iTunes library and it works again.
HOWEVER - New random songs will stop playing part way through and I have to replace those. It's a continuous cycle of deleting and replacing defective songs.
I've tried different USB sticks, my most recent is a Sandisk and even though it's expensive, it has more random song stopages than the cheaper USB sticks I've tried.
I've been buying new vehicles for 30 years and this is the first time I've ever had an audio related problem. I've been through the cassette era and the CD era with no issues.
I can't begin to tell you how unnerving it is to be driving along with my favourite tunes cranked up and then have the USB suddenly freeze and the audio go silent in a split second.
Having said all this, all the USB sticks that have given me problems in my Civic's USB port, work 100% fine in my home PC, work PC and two other vehicles.
So I've come to the conclusion that my Civic's USB player is either very touchy or it's defective.

Has anyone else had this USB audio experience with their 2019 Civic?
If so, do you have a simple fix?...or should I have my vehicle's USB system serviced?

Thanks for your time

I'm no computer expert. But I believe the system calls for a (no larger than) 32 GB stick formatted to FAT32. Also... if there's any 'crapware' on the stick; maybe delete and re-format.

Good Luck.

I'm going to try a small capacity USB drive. You may have a good point because my Sandisk is 32GB and gives me more trouble than my 8GB econo USB drive.
I only have 3GB of music, so putting it on a 32GB drive may be the issue
Thanks for your input

You can use a 32GB Thumb drive (formatted to Fat32 by Windows), or even bigger drives 128GB, 256GB, if you format them Fat32 using Android, or a windows Fat32 big drive formatting utility.

But even though you CAN, there is little point going beyond 32GB, as the Honda "File Music Player", has a limitation of 700 directories, and maybe a song limit of about 10 times that (7000 songs).

And a Big drive ( >32 GB) take forever to load each time you start the head Unit.

So it makes more sense to spread you music out over multiple 32GB drives, rather than try to put it all on one massive drive.

Back to your USB Thumb drive - while I believe the Honda HU is on,y USB2, my experience is that it is very Picky on what make of USB 2.0 Thumb Drive you try to use, but works a lot more reliably with USB 3,0 drives (even though the actual USB port is 2.0) The 3.0 Drives are just faster even on the 2,0 USB port, and do not tend to cause Music to Glitch so much.

BTW Music can glitch sometimes when you turn on your Lane Watch Camera.

This can often be fixed by Hard Resetting the HU.. ie Pull HU fuse for 10 minutes, but you will loose some setting, as it will RESET back to factory default settings.
Hard Reset of the HUI can fix a number of issues, as it frees up Lost Allocated ram.

After I said use no bigger than 32GB, in fact I use a 64GB 3.0.
I have more than 700 directories on it.
I have about 10 Main sub directories, with different selection of muic in each.

Ie Pop
Heavy Rock
Classical
Coutry
Beatles
80'S
90's

etc
Each one has a number

ie
01 Pop
02 Heavy Rock
03 Country

Bear in mind only the 1st 700 directories are Visible to the Honda File Player.

I use a Program called Drive Sort (on PC) to sort the Directories(Folders) Alphabetically

So sorted on the drive in now

01 POP
02 Heavy metal etc
I can select the whole Drive (or by main sub folder etc, to play)

Occasionally, I will put the drive on the PC, and renumber the first level directories.

ie 01 Country
02 Christmas
etc
And re-sort.

Now I have a different selection of 700 folders worth of music

Might sound a little complex at first, but it really is not, and work well, especially with the way the Honda Music player is Folder/Track based.

Even if you have a smaller drive, with less than 700 folder, using Drive Sort makes the Honda display of your Music a lot more logical (sorted), and by having it sorted into Main First Folder categories , is as closes as you can get to grouping music by Artist or Genre with the Honda Music Player.

I've had tons of problems with USB music. For me, if I kept the file count under 254 files, everything would work fine. As soon as I put more files than that, my HU would lock up when the first track change occurred, or if I dared use one of the cameras before the first track change occurred. This experience I replicated on several USB drives from different manufacturers, including Sandisk and Kingston.

I now have Corsair and Patriot USB drives for the car, no problems whatsoever anymore.

So 254 files..around 2GB?
I may start using two USB sticks

That's what I started doing while I experimented with different USB devices until I noticed that one drive was giving me fewer problems than the rest. Patriot Rage XT if you're in the market, both a new one and a 5+ year old one give no problems no matter how much music I put on it.

Ok thanks for the info
I also disabled the turn signal camera hoping it will help

I have issues with my usb as well which makes no sense to me. I had a 2017 accord sport and I used the same thumb drive with the same files on it for two years without a problem. Now I’ve got a 2019 civic sport hatch and it will not play the same thumb drive without pausing the songs. Ridiculous.
