Hi,

My 2018 Civic's A/C is just giving hot air. I'm guessing it's the A/C clutch relay in the fuse box, looking at the compressor not spinning. The A/C compressor under-hood fuse A-23, and under-dash fuse B-9 are okay. I think I have to replace the relay, but I'm not sure which one it is. Could you show me which part is the relay that I should replace in the picture below? Or could you show me where to get the relay diagram? It would be great if I could get it repaired on my own. I don't want to pay for the service because my car has just been 12,300km, a year and a half.

Cheers,
Thomas

Why would you have to pay for service? It's still under warranty just go get it looked at

My dealer said it's consumable like tires and brakes, and I unfortunately have to pay to replace it. But everyone except him says about the warranty. Maybe the dealer might be mistaken. I better go to the Honda service first.

Anyway, I figured out which part the A/C clutch relay is. I'm posting it for your information.

I'm back to share the result for your information.
I said that it must be the issue of A/C compressor clutch relayA/C compressor clutch relay, looking at the compressor not spinning at all.
As a result, I was wrong. It wasn't A/C compressor clutch relay. The service person found that the condensor was leaking. I hope it helps for you in case you have trouble with the A/C.

I was gonna say the compressor not spinning could be due to zero or low refrigerant. Before throwing thousand$$$ at it, do what a lot of us are doing and put in 8oz of r1234yf and enjoy the cold air flowing again (at least to get you through summer! :-D).

I read on thwe web about some civics from 2016 to 2018 having issues with the compressor or leaks on the system. Sadly my car is salvage already. Well l bought to fix it myself. But saying that Honda doesn't cover ir anymore. I wanna try that putting some freon. I also read that the compressor doesn't engaged by protection when theres not freon in it. Thanks

Yes that is correct. If the Freonis low then there is a pressure switch to turn off the compressor. The Freon has oil in it.

When I run into an ac compressor not turning on the majority of the time it’s due to low Freon or no Freon from a leak. Sometimes you can follow along the ac system and find a stain of oil. That happened last to me on my Accord when the condenser leaked. Was fairly easy to see. The older systems used to have a site glass and if you saw bubbles then your Freon was low.

Thanks. Ill try putting some freon. I know it uses r1234yf. And a new connector. Hopefully comes back to life. This summer!!! And ill check for leaks. Is there any special glasses or something to detect any leaks.

I don’t think the newer cars have a sight glass anymore but I could be wrong. Mechanics have a Freon sniffer that can find leaks. I looked for a leak and found it looking through the bottom part of my front bumper As the condenser is in front of the radiator. . Looked like a dark stain. If it’s a small leak it’s hard to see, if there is a leak at all.

@Mega503
Do you have an update now, almost 12 month later? :D

---

Brought mine to the dealer because the A/C stopped working. I thought it will be something huge, like a broken A/C compressor or something.

Turns out it was just the A/C compressor relay. Dealership requests €140 ($ 167) for diagnosing and repairing the relay.

Should have seen this thread earlier. Car is 3 years old and has 31 k miles on it. A/C wasn't running a lot during that time.

A/C diag/parts replacement for the 10th gen should be free since it's part of Honda's extended warranty (caps at 10 years, no km/mi)

There is nothing like that in Germany.

When I bought the car I got a two year warranty extension from the dealer. So I have four years in total, but that's not directly Honda, it's from an insurance company (Allianz) that works together with Honda Germany.

But neither that helps, because they're actually decline paying for it, because relays are not covered in their policies.
