This can be done already, as has been.
My apologies, I should have been more clear with my question. I've heard that there are several piggyback devices in the works to make this happen, but I was wondering if there are any plans to build support for managing Port Injection directly into KTuner?

No worries. There's no point in building a piggyback when there are ones that work well available already.

Which C&C you headed to? Depending on how the weekend shapes up, I may be up for one. Let me know!
I'm trying to go to the Hershey Heritage C&C Saturday and the Lancaster C&C Sunday at Park City....followed by Panda Junction. We'll see if it works out. Family doesn't really like for me to spend more than 10 minutes a week doing car things. Even talking about it starts fights.

So to be crystal clear as people on here seem to like to half answer things or just assume you should know the details. As of now Ktuner is no longer developing the tuning package they offer for the type R? Is this my correct understanding?

Can't answer for KTuner but... I was once told 'a Focus RS ECU can be further modified (tweaked?) to run port and direct injectors.' I cannot confirm or deny this as I have no real connection to the Focus RS world. I'll try to talk to some people at Cars&Coffee over the weekend.
RS, apparently, has a Bosche ECU. Not the same but could have similar architecture?
Your occupation tag under your profile is too real for me haha. Sometimes I attend meetings and think to myself, I wonder if they know that I have no idea what they are talking about. It's only when we start talking mechanical items that I realize they are just as oblivious to my side of the world lol.

Haha. Unfortunately for me, myself and one other guy are the 'Electrical Engineers' and thus electrical experts on our particular project. That, plus a change from UL 1995 to 60335...really stretching sometime! Fortunately I spent several years as an automotive mechanic so I have tools and some experience to draw from. It's all good work but I haven't figured out how to make the jump to VP levels...

I'm exploring piggybacks. We can take the conversation offline if you prefer, but I'd be interested in seeing if anyone knows how well the piggyback plays with the KTuner'd ECU.

I seem to be thinking of it all wrong - I'd like to see an Injector Driver that interfaces with the stock ECU by way of connecting to the injector electrical connector coming off the harness. From there, injection duty is split between the Direct Injectors and the new port injectors. It seems like the stock ECU would be able to handle this if the Injector Driver could be set up to know (perhaps by also monitoring ELD?) when the car is idling and 'eco' driving and really only start to push the Port injectors to match demand.

We don't know the future but what does everyone think? Talking stock/tuned ECU - is upgraded fuel injector/DI pump/LP pump likely to be developed, or will some sort of split injection system come to be?

If it's possible, I'd prefer an upgraded fuel injector and high pressure pump to a split injection system. It would be great if such a system is developed for a ktuner to release a stage 2 or whatever that is specifically tuned to work with such a setup. I'd really like to see around 400whp or so; that would allow this car to keep up with some very fast cars on the straights on track. With just the stage 1 tune I was almost able to keep up with a 911 Carrera T on the straights (and was way more stable in the turns).

A hybrid system pulling from the existing ECU outputs would not work. Adding port injection as a separate controller does.

Some upgraded pumps really would be nice, but the company who can make them is working with *another company* who didn't seem intent on actually finishing the project, last I heard. Let's hope that changes.

Yeah I'm not even close to VP lol.. our manager has been here for 18 years now, then there is Senior Manager, then Division Director, then VP of electrical, then executive VP, then president over North America, then President over Global...

The corporate latter is brutal..
I do often dream of just opening a bar or something, but ya know, bills and kids and stuff.

Got it. Will the stock FK8 ECU (KTuned of course) play with that scenario?
