Your “flat” throttle response is simply due to the IAT2 temp entering your throttle body. HOT air is not efficient in combustion; so, your ECU is retarding timing to save your motor. Being on the stock IC and in a constant state of boost, your turbo is generating a great deal of heat that your IC cannot keep up with. This is especially noticeable when you come off throttle and the negative vacuum creates stagnation and the IC core absorbs heat.
Turbo wraps are not going to save you there. An upgraded IC will keep you cooler and recover faster when getting back on boost.
Thanks for the detailed reply, without pinning you down to exact numbers what kind of improvment could I expect a decent aftermarket IC to deliver based on the same useage?

@Arcam
What I do not know is WHAT tune or power level you are using. I’m sure you understand that increased power generates more heat. However, as I mentioned - the stock IC is unable to meet the constant demand.
A well designed IC will provide you with consistent combustion w/o that “flat” throttle response after getting off throttle and braking and getting back into the throttle.
That GRILL you were suggesting can help with radiator cooling and the Upgraded IC will assist with your coolant temps as well.
In addition:
If you wish to control radiant heat a bit better within your coolant system, upgrade your hoses to silicone and that will insulate the heat that is absorbed from the rubber. The little things here and there make noticeable differences.

Having just done 4 days at the Nurburgring 2 wet and 2 dry I found that the coolant system is woeful, as on the 2nd lap of the 'ring in 18c heat the coolant temp gauge was at 75% max, still amazed that Honda did not include an oil temp sender as standard!

Anyway, zero oil or water consumption but I would like to throw 2 questions out to those who track their cars:

1) I get a "squeak" on lift off from the power at high RPMs (5k+), I suspect it is exhaust or engine mount related, anyone else had this and found the fix?

2) When getting back on the power after braking for a corner and with the RPM still around 4k the throttle/engine response was very flat even with the pedal buried, I run 99oct fuel and the boost gauge showed 1.5bar, air temp 18-20c, 70% humidity, I did not have issues on the 2 wets days, guess with the IC and coolant rad getting sprayed with water every second helped! I don't want to start replacing the IC and rad just yet, has anyone tried this kit and if so did it help?

Hi there.

Quick question: what’s your feedback, in terms of handling in the wet for the stock tires?

By the way: are you tuned? At least Hondata, it lets you modify fan settings, to help some when it comes to cooling, definitely an IC will help as well, do you feel rev hang? That can be addressed as well with the tune.

Cheers.

Hi NF,
I swapped the stock tyres after my first "shake down" trackday, the fronts only lasted the day at Donington so I never used them in the wet in anger. I fitted the Michelin P4S in the stock size and by the time I got to the Nurburgring they has 1k miles on them, they were simply fantastic, at over 140mph they were still clearing water (not standing water mind you) and the corner grip was more than I hoped for, I do have plenty of video footage in the wet if anyone if interested enough I will upload some to YT.

Can't say that I noticed any rev hang, I have a completely stock car apart from the disks, pads, brake fluid, tyres and alignment, the only disappointment (apart form the 2nd gear crunch) was the lack of power when hot as described earlier in this thread.
