Noobie question here. Would changing my OEM plastic grille to a badge-less eBay grille (for more airflow to the radiator) bump me to a different class?
i believe this would move you to prepared class (DSP).

The Laziness Experiment: No rotation, no flipping, 126 runs (if I counted right). I sorta expected the disparity in wear -- my old codriver does this and buys in pairs, new ones on the back. He says he's always got rain tires this way. :)

What I didn't expect was the evenness across the tread ...

Normally I plan on two sets a year. Its what I budget for being going into nationals I generally want a new set of tires on the car. P{personally I make sure there are about 12 runs on the tires going into nationals. Ive noticed the amazing hero run on a new set of tires but then they tend to fall off for a bit before evening out and becoming more consistent. Not sure if anyone else has notice that but thats just me.

I could easily get through summer based on wear but heat cycles are harder to gauge. Did great today on them (1st in deep pro class), but Ryan Otis in the FoRS ran time only ... and was .7 faster. He's on RE71s, which are way better suited to the surface than Rivals, and he's an alien, after all.

Honest, I know folks like 20 runs or something on Bridgestones but to me they feel fine after maybe 1 or 2. Just not sensitive enough to tell the difference.

Completed my first competition yesterday, June 2.
After an almost two year break, I show up in my D Street CTR and place 5 out 130 in PAX. This car is so well engineered.
Anyone who has done Nationals will likely recognize names of my fellow competitors...

Tire comparison planned this weekend might not be too conclusive, my Craigslist RE71 275 fronts are pretty used at this point so that will probably influence the results pretty significantly. Will still try to draw some finding. Will probably mainly focus on getting the 275 BFGs to work, and will be running the karcepts bar for the first time....

Recap the tires that will be used are going to be:
RE71R 275/245 combo
BFG 275/275

Ran 2 autoX in the last month on smooth Toledo concrete and paxed 12th and 11th. The car is working pretty well on the staggered Bridgestones on stock bar. But I am unlikely to stick with this setup so not really that useful...

I was thinking of a bulldog setup like yours rather than reinstalling my Karcepts bar -- are you giving up on it just because you want to switch to Rivals, because you already bought the bar ... ?

Well I want to try the Rivals mainly because it worked great on the GTI so it would make sense to try it here now that its available. But we are also finding that the staggered setup being a lot less tuneable since you have a built-in balance that you can't really go away from. The car is really neutral but on colder days or maybe damp surface it can basically just be super loose. And even in bone-dry condition the balance can be tricky until you get to the right tire pressure balance(slight instability under braking in general too). And we are still on the stock rear bar. So I think switching at least to a square setup, Rivals or not, will probably shift the balance back to a point where we might run Karcepts at a more medium setup that can be backed off when needed to get the car to be balanced similarly as staggered tires but have a softer point to go to.

This is the operating theory at least. Also having square tires help with tire life management too. The rear 245 sees very little wear and the fronts are pretty beat right now....

Filed under life decisions I will regret....finished the custom exhaust for the car. Started with RV6 front pipe which I think ended up being about 1lb less than stock one, and a 3" resonator delete thin-wall stainless mid-pipe that goes to about where rear seat foot well is about 3lb less than the section we took out, then from that point back is muffler-less aluminum 3" rear pipe, with 4" dual tips. About 20lb less than the stock part we replaced(we are keeping it though and added a V-band joint to it so I can swap it off season). Estimating a 24lb drop which seems like way too much work for....

Its loud AF, but should pass noise. Would probably regret every single day I drive the car, which is every day....
