I've read a few people not happy with the shift in the US and just don't get it. It's awesome!!! I've not heard of any complaints or 'it gets better with miles' over here, wonder if it's what side you sit on or something...

Problems with some gear boxes is well documented though, so hope yours ain't a wrong'un OP...

Link for the knob?

It might just need a couple thousand miles to wear in. But I couldn’t wait so replaced it with a ebay “stainless steel heavy shift knob” and made a world of difference.

Not sure if I can link it here but you can search for it on eBay using these keywords "M10 X 1.5 STAINLESS STEEL HEAVY WEIGHTED ROUND 6 SPEED SHIFT KNOB BALL FOR HONDA". Good luck.

Thanks
Is it a lot bigger than OEM knob?

Amazing, excellent, awesome. Then why does my shifter feel like this? Probably one of the worst I've ever owned.

This is very similar to mine, it got better over time but it is not "smooth" like the reviews or others owners say. I have gotten used to it and complain every time I take it in. I hope now that honda is done with the 1.5t problem they can finally look into this. Historically they are very slow to fix issues and to be fair this one seems hard to pin down. My personal theory is it is the shift cables and/or their connections, but I cannot prove it.

I installed the Boomba short shifter that installs on the transmission with new brass bushings. It was a total night and day difference shifting, Best mod thus far.

From a start, I sometimes have the same issue. But, this was nothing to new to me since my WRX had it as well. You have shift it into another gear and shift back into reverse. No need to release clutch to get into the other gear though.
I've owned many manuals since 1989 and have been driving them continuously that entire time. What you're describing is normal for every one I've ever owned.

My CTR only has 350 miles on it, but it feels practically identical to the other 4 Si coupes I've had since 2008. No grinds. A little vague while driving casually. Smooth as butter driving hard.

I sometimes get that weirdness going into 2nd but I blame it on user error since it's not all the time.
The "notch" going into other gears is what I love about this transmission. I don't understand why people want "buttery smooth."

I think the problem is that this shifter isn't connected to the transmission directly, therefore there is a degree of isolation preventing that mechanical feedback that your body relies on to move from gate to gate. My R shifts "OK" but nothing like my 370Z did. That's what made me think of the difference between "remote" and "direct" shift connection.
I can live with it as it is but feels weird at times not feeling the transmission thru the stick or hearing the gears whine as you drive.

I’m a little late to this, but I can clarify my experience. You can have notchy/positive engagement but have a buttery smooth shift. What I had experienced previously (before CMC adjustment) was a grittiness while rowing through the gears, much like the OP’s sketch.

What's the deal with 1-2 shift that makes it different? I've had multiple cars from multiple brands and not one of them has a good 1-2 shift. I've sort of accepted it at this point.

The DC2 Integra had a really buttery 1-2 shift. Best transmission I have experienced.
