My experience with the 2019 Honda Civic Type R.

Let’s start with a brief history of the recent cars I’ve owned.
2014 Mitsubishi Evo X GSR
2005 Subaru WRX STi
2018 Honda Civic Si coupe

I was at work and my wife texted me that our local Honda dealership has a Red Type R in the showroom floor. So what do I do? I called out of work and headed straight over there. Once I walked in the front door of the dealership, there she was. It was like love at first sight. The sales person I bought my Si coupe from had the key ready for me. He handed me the key and said go ahead and sit in it, look around it, see if you like it. I loved it, I’ll take it!!
After we finished the paperwork and got in the car to drive it home, I instantly noticed a couple of things. The seats are more comfortable than the Si. The instrument cluster was different, on fuel and temperature gauge on the Si, the top point is White and in the Type R it’s yellow. Exhaust note was louder and suspension was definitely firmer. Driving it home the Type R is way more rigid and stiffer on the road.
I drive about 100 to 200 miles a day for the work that I do. The 4th day I parked in a lot where there was a CW Type R. I came back and there was a note with a phone number on my windshield. I was skeptical at first. So when I got home I texted the number. Turns out there is a group of CTR owners in my area. And so the epic journey begins.
Two of them started modding their CTR. At this point, I kept saying to myself and them, I’m just going to keep mine stock. We started meeting up more often, heading to Cars & Coffees and other car events. Honestly, I was starting to get jealous of how their CTR sounded.
A couple of months have past, and I started noticing things I didn’t like about my CTR. Some of the gravel roads I drive on, the stock tires are like lint rollers. The stock tires pick up every rock and pebble off the road and flings it on the car or gets it stuck between the brake rotor and dust shield. I know most have experienced what sound that makes. It’s embarrassing when you drive this rare car and it sounds like its breaking down.
When talking with the CTR group, we start talking about HP and how to get our CTRs to go faster. The more I hear them talk about it, the more I wanted to start modding. I looked up parts for the CTR and My GAWD, they are expensive. LOL!
The first mod I wanted was an intake. I thought that would be a good starting point. Which one to decide on? Injen, aFe Takada, Mishimoto, PRL, or Drop in K&N? I researched, well… more like watch YouTube videos. And a lot of people were saying the injen sounded the best, but had horrible heat soak. Everyone that had a YouTube video about the injen intake were tracking their cars. My car will never see a track. So I pulled the trigger and got the injen. Now to watch videos on how to install this intake. Nervous and anxious to get this intake installed, I just went for it. Did I ever mention how much I hate Honda for making clamps that don’t screw off?!? I ended getting one to turn, and the other I just ripped off. I’m was getting frustrated. And I have to run a new coolant line?!? WTF!! Oh well, let’s get it done. After the install was done, I started the car and of course instantly hit the gas pedal. The “Whoosh” sound made me giggle like a little ricer boy. LOL!! I was excited to meet up with the guys again and show off the intake and sound.
I get a text from my other CTR friend saying, “I just ordered my Mishimoto intake and aFe Exhaust”. Instantly I was jealous about the exhaust but was happy to install both for him. I wanted to see what the exhaust sounded like in person other than videos on YouTube. So, we set a date and got to installing. His intake literally took a 1/3 of the time for me to install than mine. I guess cause at this point I knew what to do. After finishing up the exhaust he cranked the car up, and I was in love once again. The CTR had this growl, it was like unleashing a beast. Then the jealously started once again.
I looked up how much an exhaust was for the CTRs, and again, My GAWD!! They are expensive!!! HAHAHA!! I thought to myself, maybe I should be wait for a LONG time. At this point I had about 6500 miles on my CTR and the tires were getting bald. (Did I mention I hated Honda) LOL!!. I researched and research on all season tires. Of course members on here were saying, “Oh just get 245/35s” and some were saying, “255/35s is the way to go”. Back and forth the arguments kept going. “Don’t go with 255/35s, they would rub”, the shops would say to me. Bigger side wall, more meat in the tires for more comfortable ride. I’m doing it!! A set of 255/35s in Nitto Motivos please!! Best decision I ever made. The tires are AWESOME!! No rubbing issues at all!!
The CTR group wanted to meet up for C&C, so I was definitely down to go. One CTR owner and I was like, let’s drive each other’s cars. He had a k&n drop in filter, with PRL intake tube and a full aFe exhaust. The jealousy of the exhaust started all over again. After getting back from the drive, he told me he’s trading in his CTR and asked me if I wanted to buy his exhaust and that I only had three days to decide cause the car was going to be gone. I didn’t have the funds at the time, so another CTR owner decided to help me out by buying the exhaust and holding it until I had the cash for it. The love friends truly have! It was about a week and I had funds on hand and was ready for it.
The aFe exhaust with resonator delete was MINE!! We installed it on my CTR and when I started the car we noticed it was a little louder than expected. My first daily run with my car, all I can say was, “Holy molly Batman, the drone!!!”. We are still to this day trying to figure out what’s causing more drone in mine than the other CTR with the same setup. We think it might be the intake that’s causing it. I decided to try the aFe resonator to see if that fixes the problem. But, I need a free day to try to get that installed.
What’s next for my CTR?!? Intercooler? Or just cosmetic upgrades? Not too sure. But, the journey with my CTR will not end here…

aFe resonator delete uninstalled and original aFe resonator installed for the first time. Let’s see if it makes my CTR more livable.

Holy crap wall of text haha. Congrats and enjoy. Question about the intake. Was the main reason you got it is for sound purposes?
Mostly, and just to see the performance of it. I really like it alot
