Lolz people in here complaining that just over $1 for fuel is expensive.

Move to Australia. And then you will know what expensive is.

Fuel is about $1.65 a liter here, sometimes it's $1.80. which means you would be paying close to $7 per gallon.

Hey all,

Curious to see how everyone's experience with their fuel economy has been since I have been doing much better than the numbers Honda has published. I did a quick search and couldn't find anything similar to this post.

I have a 2019 Civic Hatchback LX with the 1.5l turbo motor with a 6 speed manual. According to Honda, it should get 8.0/6.2/7.2 L/100KM (City/Hwy/Comb) - works out to 29/38/33 MPG for my American friends.

My last two tanks of fuel had averages of 5.9 & 6.3 L/100KM (40/37 MPG) - and on my last highway trip after refueling I was getting 4.7 (50 MPG) !!

To be fair, I am babying it a lot. I like to see what my "high score" will be, but I was not expecting to be getting such good economy numbers.

Photo for proof! Ignore the bottom number, I suppose that was from transport.

Australia is an even bigger scam than Canada it seems. We are around $ 1.25 a liter here, but out west they are paying $ 1.60 + as well. Seems like a big fail for the second largest country in the world and a big oil producer with a population smaller than the state of California.

A large portion of the high price is taken up by taxes here. The federal government has its fuel tax. And then the state adds it's own fuel tax, so yeah...

My mileage varies widely. I get much better mileage in warm weather than in winter. And the gap between all highway and city stop and go is huge in my 1.5T ...

Some numbers (60/40 highway/city):

Wintertime average tankful: about 33-34 mpg
Summertime average tankful: about 37-38 mpg
Worst single trip mileage: 17 mpg (race car mode with KTuner dialed all the way up, hilly terrain)
Best single trip mileage: 49 mpg (long mostly highway drive)

I highly doubt I would ever be able to match that mileage under any circumstance.

My heavier 2016 1.5T Touring CVT gets about 7.1/100km or 33 mpg (at 87 Octane I think)..... until I installed a KTuner last week. My first tank thereafter was 12.2/100kms (19 mpg) with higher octane (91 I think). Since then it has gone back up towards "normal" even though I drive with an aggressively tuned ECU and not in ECO mode. The green "economy bars" even light up on my drivers display (not the ECO engaged light) when I am a very good boy. So I beat it for a tank and then babied it so I expect regular mileage to be in between the 2 measurements, probably more towards the top end.

Anyone find any benefit to fuel additives?.

I'm getting 28mpg flat in heavy stop and go daily driving, in my previous car (2018 elantra) I would get about 17mpg. Pretty happy with it since I used to only get 28 by coasting on the freeway or driving like a grandma in the city

Mostly poking around town... ~33-ish, give or take a mpg or two, over the course of a tank. Around 40... a little more... a little less depending on what speed I settle on if I'm running down the interstate. I have run through whole tanks holding 41-42 mpgs running ~75-80 mph with the A/C on between GA and VA.

That ~33 is a mix of pretty aggressive driving and then just poking around running 35-45 in 5th or 6th from my work commutes. Pretty well inline with the cars MPG ratings. I'm running TSP Stage 1... which honestly has little bearing on fuel usage unless you're under acceleration. Winter warmup/fuel incurs probably a ~3 trip mpg penalty over summer blend/less warmup on a similar ~10 mile drive to work. I can't recall ever getting under 30 mpgs or better over a tank. My 9th gen struggled to crack 30 mpgs over a tank... and it read about 2 mpgs higher than actual where this car is spot on within 1 mpg of error. For a short trip, I could occasionally get the '15 to touch 40 mpgs playing the hyper-mile game. I actually haven't really done the same on this one but I wouldn't be surprised if 45-50 isn't possible for my driving loops, though I don't care for that driving style.

My RSX actually managed 30-33 mpgs over a tank pretty consistently... though it was a bit lighter and gutless without wringing it out compared to either the 9th or 10th gen. I got 37 mpgs once on a tank during a trip to Boston from upstate NY... but that was tops.

While 93 octane is a bit more than $3 where I'm at now... I definitely don't take for granted my still relatively-low fuel cost compared to others. Even if fuel prices shot up to several times their current amounts... it really wouldn't change anything about my driving as I have relatively short commutes and don't tend to go on long roadtrips often. I might fill the Civic/Odyssey every 2-3 weeks. The truck and the Z far less.

Si coupe with about 5500 mi total. Driving a mix with not much highway driving best tank 35.1mpg early tanks in winter about 31. Have seen 40+ on a relatively short highway trip driving in mid 70s. So fairly confident I could get mid 40s on longer highway trips, and could push it under 30 if I went into constant track/irresponsible mode all the time.

I’m averaging 6.2L/100km; a little over 45mpg with my Touring/CVT car.
How does that compare, as this is Imperial mpg.
Where do you look to get the other mileage numbers?
They look like a tank-by-tank calculation.
Thanks!

Does the 2019 civic si have the same screen as the OP has? I’ve never seen that screen yet, only the one below the speed like some of the other pictures show.

The default color scheme between the LX and Si are different but... yes. Should have it. You have to press the right hand tab at the top to show 'history of trip a' since your trip a odometer resets every fill-up by default, as I recall. Trip B does not.

Ottawa to Montreal return I got 5.9 l/100 (39.9 MPG) with my LX Sedan (2.0l) and 6sp. On the highway, for the most part I have the cruise set to 113km/hr (70MPH). This included driving in and out of downtown Montreal and a fairly wicked head wind on the return!

On my commute to / from work, I have a bit of free way driving, main streets and the like. I can easily get between 5.6 and 6l / 100 (39 to 42 MPG) most of the time, depending on luck with lights. I always drive a bit over the speed limit, but watch the lights ahead of me. If red, or about to turn red, I coast into the light with the objective of never using the brakes (of course, not always possible). Using this approach, I can reduce consumption from about 7.5 to 8 l/100 (29 to 31 MPG) attained from a more "normal" driving style (a.k.a follow the car in front). Most people do not realize how much difference driving style can make!

Overall, I am very impressed!
