Side note - which tints did yall go with? I have crystalline on my S4 and love it but every tinter I've spoken to has tried to talk me out of doing that on the hatch

Crystalline all around, including the windshield.

I plugged in my KTuner unit and checked for DTCs, running voltage, stopped voltage. Tested it with a multimeter too. All fine.

They definitely got water somewhere, which is the entire point of this thread - make sure they're more careful than my tinter was. I'm not sure why you're so dead set on telling everyone water doesn't cause this. Maybe yours wasn't caused by it, but mostly everyone else certainly was. Water is moving around the edges where harnesses are, suddenly things start exhibiting exactly what happens when water bridges low-power wires, battery is usually fine, and it goes away after a couple days. Sounds like it was the water to me.

I'm so dead set on telling everyone because that's the issue. Water on live electrical wires = blown fuses and at the very least corrosion. Anyone provided evidence of that? Show me evidence that water got into your wiring and caused the problem. You can't, so you're just guessing just like everyone else. I can attest to the battery drain being the culprit because I saw it with my own eyes. Running the car for 4-5 days isn't allowing drying the wiring out, it's slowly bring the battery back up to acceptable charge and the problem subsides. If people want to believe and wait for the paint to dry, fine; if they want the problem solved quickly, use a battery charger.

I am going through this same issue. Had my CTR windows tinted today (minus the windshield). I charged the battery and it is still giving me problems. I think water must have gotten into something. Makes me worried even after the water drys and corrosion sets in...

So what is it, in the doors, that gets wet, and causes all these issues ??

Maybe next time someone is doing a speaker upgrade, and has the door panels open, (or off for any other reason) they can take some pictures of what is there, and how it is laid out, and how (If at all) it is protected from water running down the INSIDE of the door Glass.

PURE WATER, getting onto electronics, typically will not cause any damage, provided there is no power on the electronics, and it is allowed to evaporate off before power is applied.
(Circuit boards a washed in De-ionized water during manufacture)

Contaminated water can readily cause corrosion.
Contaminated water with power applied is a DISASTER !!

Typically, Tint Installers are spaying down the inside windows with water with some wetting agent added. Hopefully they are using Distilled water, but I bet some are just using Tap water, or even worse , Well water !!!.

Unfortunately, one cannot disconnect the battery during Tinting, as the Installer needs to be able to wind the window up & down :(

Mine was tinted at dealer before I bought the car. 3M tint. I just mention that as it can't void the warranty as it was a dealer add on before I bought the car. And I guess it had time to dry out before I bought it.

most likely its because that 3m line of tint is harder to install its thicker then other tints it wasn't specifically designed for automotive use. well thats what i read anyways lol

Bad cell in a battery will cause crazy electrical behavior in neewer cars, dont understand why but experienced it first hand. Pulled thr battery autozone confirmed bad cell perfect voltage, new baterty no dash flickers , random lock/unlocks

Just got my windows tinted and this is exactly what happened - I got a keyless entry error on the dash, and with my car completely turned off, all of the dash lights flicker. The tint installer said he has never seen this and has done other Type Rs.

He was able to fix it the issue by blowing air down the window slot but after which required him to install another sheet of tint, perpetuating the issue. Now I'm home and hoping this issue goes away, I told him I'd let my car bake in the sun. I'm going to disconnect the battery right now, but am super pissed this is going on.

No problems when my CTR got tinting but I recently brought my Si sedan back for windshield tint and I had this issue. It lasted a few days and went away.

So I've searched and read a few threads on the topic but my car's auto headlight feature isn't working after ceramic tint job of entire car including entire windshield.

I just got it done yesterday so I'm letting the car sit in the sun all day today before resetting the battery to see if it will work again.

Anyone ever figure out what the deal is with these cars and tinting? I wish I had seen this thread before getting the tint done to warn the installer.

So far I've tried resetting the battery and then also followed the manual by pulling the headlight lever towards me for 30-40 seconds. Nothing happens. Maybe I need to drive around and let the car learn different brightness settings?

Anyways, I hope my auto headlight on feature comes back....

Please let me know how this works out for you. I’m tinting my Type-R on Saturday. I’m going to remind the shop owner once I drop it off. He told me when I first inquired that he tinter Type R’s before and never had any issues. We’ll see how it works out. I’ll hope for the best.

Mine said the same and here I am with no auto headlight... Drove the vette to work so the type r can bake in the sun at home and hopefully work tonight.
