Hey all,

I've had my brand new (drove off the lot with 13 miles on it) 2018 Civic EX-T for less than five months now, with less than 4,000 miles on it. Been a great car, except... I have 4 minor rock chips, and as of today, a more significant hit with cracking. Prior to this, in my 12 years of driving in the same area, I've gotten a grand total of zero rock chips.

Is my luck just catching up with me, or are these windshields of lower quality than those I've been spoiled by?

In case anyone's curious, my previous vehicles were a '96 Ford Ranger and a '06 PT Cruiser.

Mine's a 2016, but yeah, it was problematic. I got it replaced with an aftermarket from Safelite, and they complained a ton about recalibrating my safety package stuff, but they finally got it done, and this aftermarket one hasn't caused me a bit of trouble like the factory one has.

I, unfortunately, watched a tiny rock fly off the tire of a car in front of me, a few days ago, and it cracked my windshield too. I wasn't tailgating (though they were going SLLLOOOOWWWW in the passing lane) but it was apparently enough. I wonder if aerodynamics has something to do with it as well? Also, does anyone make a window with more layers of film that would make it more likely for rocks to bounce rather than crack?

This happened to me on the highway, traveling 65 mph.

I have a 2018 si.. I have had my windshield replaced twice. Two days ago just got a visible chip in the windshield.. hasn't spidered yet so maybe it will be okay?

I have had the car about 1 year 3 months. Good thing for me, I decided to get the warranty to cover the windshield when I bought it..

Yes.

Purchased brand new end of August 2018, early December I had something pop up on me while I was on the highway ~40 yards behind a small pickup.

Each little segment seems to hold as-is for a few months, then spontaneously a new segment of the crack appears.

I've driven on Houston roads for over 10 years with several other cars, and they've been fine. The Civic glass needs an extra layer to strengthen it up.

My 2016 got a chip very soon after I got it. I had it repaired, and it hasn't cracked, although it's still very visible. This was the first windshield that's gotten a chip in my 37 years of driving.

The whole front of this car is fragile. I drive pretty far away from cars in front of me. Already had 1 fog lense replaced. Bumper and hood are littered with rock chips and windshield gets a chip by looking at it. Cheap ass cars. My car is only at 13k and I feel like it's been driven for 60K. My 2013 fit is at 67k miles and looks about the same.

Hai! Yes it does have fragile windshield. I had mine replaced.
Also it has very thin paint as well. I already touched up several paint chips. But i love this car.

I get what you mean. My wife's 2015 Toyota Camry just "seems" more durable; it has fewer paint chips, the upholstery is better, and it has had no windshield issues, compared to my 2016 Civic.

Got a few chips too. Will try to fix it with those UV curing putty.

Don't even mention the paint chipping in the hood/bumper... I get a new one almost every week. lol

So far the 2020 is not immune to windshield chips. Three in the first six weeks. The paint and the rest of the car are still good however.
The warranty says:
This New Vehicle Limited Warranty Does Not Cover:
  • Broken, chipped, or scratched window glass unless it is due to a defect in material or workmanship.
Has anyone been able to get the windshield replaced as defective under warranty? And had better success with the replacement glass?
