I just found my 2016 EX-T ac is hot and hissing. My car is only 10k miles for 3 years. Trying to replace the compressor fuse but it won't help. Finally I found my car is still just days before the 3 year warranty expiration. Went to the dealer and had the condenser replaced!

My car is like 3 days out of warranty and when I tried to turn on the AC today all I got was this hissing sound. That's a sound I usually hear for a second or two before the AC comes on, but this time it just stayed on and the air coming out didn't get any cooler. I scanned quite a bit of this thread and didn't see the exact same scenario. Has anyone else's AC broken with this same symptom? If so how was it fixed?

you seem to be having the same problem everyone else is. Mine doesn't really "hiss" but it does make a noise. Honda is about to have a class action lawsuit against them because if it's not in warranty they won't cover the fix for them. Follow this link, let them know it's happened to you too.

My 2016 civic started blowing hot air 10 months ago. A/C system was found empty, but no leaking was found. The dealer refilled it, and it worked. My mileage had exceeded the warranty so I had to pay $250 for that. I only used a/c a few times due to the cold weather here in MA. Last week I tried to use a/c again, it started blowing hot air again. Called Honda North America but they wouldn’t do anything.

I'm back from the dealer:

They replaced my condenser 100% no charge and 100% outta factory warranty (My 16' Civic EX-T is at 40k)

They told me that a rock was likely at fault (like most in this post), and also "back dated" my mileage to 35k (from 40k).

They also addressed a "washer drain" recall, and "software" update.

I did put up a stink when I dropped it off -- I told them they were covering this under the factory warranty as this is the same issue as last year.

The condenser only took 1-day to order, and just picked up my car today (24 hour turn around).

And were actually really nice throughout the whole process :hmm:

So I wish the rest of you luck!! (and that's messed up regarding that class action lawsuit --^ but it's the truth).

Thanks for the suggestion!

I'm back after the winter to report the AC is dead again.... They charged it for free last summer, I obviously didn't use over the winter, now that it's warm again I tested it and it's back to blowing hot air...

I'm going to put up a stink at my dealer (Central MA dealer) as I told them I'd be back if it was bust again next season (this summer) and they'd be paying for it.

I'm officially outta warranty, but told them to note on my account this was bust before I hit the 36k or whatnot...

To be continued.... :bat:

I was ripped off in one dealership and they told me they would honor my warranty when I went in to pick it up they did not and charged me 500 for freon refill. I stopped doing business with that dealer and filed a BAR complaint that didn't go nowhere because the dude sided with the pretty manager, so I filed low reviews on the dealership and the BAR agent. I was so upset about the outcome I realized it would be a waste of my time if I went to court. Next time if this stuff happens I most likely will.

Hi,

Was it Meadowvale Honda by any chance? They are well known crooks.

I'm on the same boat as you guys. My AC is blowing hot air too!

1. Checked the Compressor clutch assembly attached with the drive belt. The clutch is not spinning.

2. It could be faulty Compressor or low on stupid! expensive! ecofriendly! ozonefriendly! R1234yf

Thankfully, my car is covered under extended warranty upto 200K or 7 yrs warranty and it's my third year of 2016 civic lx and sitting at 80K.

I called the dealership and got an appointment for June 1st. According to them, they are extremely busy so didn't give me any closer date. So, unfortunately have to suffer few more days.

They said it will be $120+tax for Diagnostic test. Ans if any part is broken and if its covered under warranty then we will fix it and your $120 fee will be waived too.

My question to you guys is....

IS r1234yf RECHARGE COVERED UNDER WARRANTY??

I'm not going to Meadowvale Honda Mississauga from where I bought this crap. I'm going to a diff dealer. Let see if they have any ethical or moral value!!

Lesson learned.. never buy Honda again. Screw you 'Honda peace of mind guaranty'!

I tried filling consumer complaint with small claims court and OMVIC as well a year ago. Nothing came out! But if we get together then we will have group voice.

I see. I'm from Toronto Canada.
What worked for me is I went to the original dealership and they honored the warranty the compressor stuff would have been two grand out of my pocket. They charged me the same 120 for them to do diagnostics and they said I only had to pay 100 deductible because it was my compressor, but did not charge me for the freon refill and even told me it should not be that high. They even waived the diagnostics because it was the compressor.

Like you I bought an extended warranty. My only advice is from this is only do service at the original place you bought the car because they have records of the warranty.

Some dealerships will gouge you.

A thought :-

The new CivicX use the new Environment Friendly (and EXPENSIVE) T1234yf.
Prior to that they used the very In-expensive R123.

Putting the environment aspect aside, can these CivicX cars use R123 ?? and if so, will the old R1234yf need to be purges, or can the system just be topped up with R123 ??

Should have done some research first ... but here is the good news

"1234YF-freon-gas-be-replaced-with-R134a-" !!!! If you don't care about the useless Honda Warranty !!!

Definitely worth considering, once the car is old enough to be out of warranty

R134a is about 1/5 the cost of R1234af !!

The verdict for me was:

"refrigerant level excessively too low, leak from the compressor shaft seal. Performed an AC system performance test, readings out of specs do (sic) to leak. Replaced the compressor and transferred parts. Replaced the condenser desiccant filter set, evacuate and recharge system to specs."

I had the work done at the dealer where i bought the car and they only charged me a $100 "deductible" for everything.
Not a bad turnout I guess, but still I find it quite appalling that any car should have a catastrophic failure of a major component like this just a few days out of warranty, especially a Honda. I paid a premium price for this car in part because it's supposed to be more reliable than others. Before this I drove only Chryslers and Fords. They had their problems too but never something that big, that soon.
