I have Michelin AS3+ on stock rims. Would it be a mistake for a complete rookie to do an intro track session on those? Could put the original rubber back on but would rather avoid the expense and hassle of that.

Complete rookie? Yes. Bump the pressure to ~40 to keep from rolling over the sidewall.

Hopefully won't be too hot ambient temp wise or you might chunk them, but a rookie is unlikely to push them that hard.

Also you could argue they are "better" for a rookie bc they will howl as your get closer to the limit - signaling back down 'pardner

Only one track day under my belt but I can tell you one thing I learned - grip can pardon a lot of sins on the track. But as a beginner, you need to commit those sins so you can understand what not to do. In other words, sins of commission are far more important when learning on the track. Take it easy, be smooth, listen to your car and your instructor and have fun. It's a blast!
