When the K-series debuted in 2001-2002 most eyes were still focused on the B-series, clearly the aftermarket cemented it as the ultimate 4-cylinder. Will this K20c1 engine follow that path? If you could make a prediction will this engine go down as a dud or will it prove to be proper K-series when it's all said and done?

I think that after the DIFP gets upgraded we will see higher power being extracted. And yes I see it becoming a legend.

I think so too, still an entirely new platform.

the term "legendary" is subjective, what I have seen so far and I'm sure others agree is that the K20C1 has reviewed very well and has been noted as one of the best performance motors Honda has produced recently....with that said I have already seen several car enthusiasts do K20C1 swaps in their projects so that definitely says something....time will tell once people really start putting miles on these cars how good of an engine it actually is, but I'll say so far so good. A lot of people hated on the 9th gen civic Si's motor for being the first K-series to ditch a 4 port head for a singular one (emission purposes I guess) and it turned out to be a great motor for boost...we ended up making 930whp on mines when it was built when nobody believed it could make over 650whp.

Today built 1.5T engines are outrunning the 2.0T. I'm sure all of that will change in due time. It will be interesting to watch it all develop.

that's because the 1.5t is more readily available so shops are doing way more RnD on them because the market is bigger. There is a type R in Puerto Rico that just ran an 11.7 with bolt on's and race gas...so in due time I'm sure the 2.0T will catch up. More people prefer to track their R's as opposed to drag racing them.

I'm with you. The car isn't built for a straight line. In time it will exceed in both areas I am sure. No reason for it not to.

Unless Honda reinforces or upgrade the K20C1 to withstand more power without break, the engine will be just an OK “nowadays” engine. It is hard to live in the shadow of the B18 engine. HOWEVER as whole, the CTR was, is and will live up to the expectations.

I think the motor making 400whp stock is a great number for a turbo 4 cylinder. Anything past that you need pistons and rods no big deal, that won't make or break the engine you won't find many cars that come with 300hp you can just crank up to 500-600hp without doing internal work. Definitely not 4 cylinders.

Will need to be able to do > 4 laps in a row in socal before overheating before I'd entertain any legendary status..

I think any Type R engine will always be coveted by the Honda community. The K20c1 does pretty damn well in stock form, and can do so much more once aftermarket comes into play.

Personally, I like the idea of Honda reliability on the engine and matched to a turbo, swapped into say an EG6 hatch. That would be gangster and so much fun in a ~2300 pound vehicle.

Once more CTRs get wrecked, you'll see these swaps start popping up more and more.

If it is Type R related, there will always be a following and desire for it.

FK8? Sure. K20C1? No. It’s decent stock, but pretty meh in tunability and strength.

The block itself looks absolutely legendary. When people do all the things they have done to the b and k series motors to make them legendary (Rods, Pistons, Springs, Valves, etc etc.) it will be a monster IMO.
