at 42,000 I AM ABOUT TIME FOR A NEW SET. I am looking middle of the road not highly expensive. Stock tires I have on are Firestone FT140 215/50/17 91H.
I want to keep same factory rims obviously but want to get something a little more aggressive looking that also will be a good fit on these rims with no issues.. SUGGESTIONS??
THANKS

Aggressive looking or more aggressive performance tires?

You can get tons of grippier performance tires in your stock size. I know in Europe they use a 235/45-17 but that's kind of wide for your 7" stock wheels.

OK I have decided on the tires now just debating the size... I am going with the Continental ExtremeContact DWS06 BSW...Do I stick with OEM size of 215/50/17 ? Or go with the 225/45/17 that Tire Rack suggested? Any advantages/disadvantages ?? I am leaning towards the 225/45/17 due to looking a little more sporty ??

The Contis are very nice, imho. I had a set on my GTI and loved the performance.

Check out this site: https://tiresize.com/comparison/

The site will give a comparison of the two sizes and then you can decide which is best. Personally, I'd stick with OEM size based on the numbers I saw.

Thanks, but reason I was considering the 225/45 is I was looking for a little more of an aggressive sporty look ??

You won't get a much more aggressive look with tires alone. That's more about wheels with a lower offset.

Just a nicer look I guess. The Firestone’s are a little boring. Would you stay with stock size then?

The 225s are lower profile and could look “aggressive sporty” but the size is also overall smaller and won’t fill the fenders as well as the stock which was why I suggested staying stock. Unless you’re also considering a drop, too.

Would there be a better size that you would suggest? I am not doing any mods such as dropping it.

For example: I just recently put on the Si wheels (18s) on my EX hatch which had 17s stock. The tire on the 18s are lower profile but the rim is bigger. So the profile looks more “sporty” but the overall dimensions is about the same so the gap doesn’t look any bigger or smaller but the overall wheel size gives the impression of filling the wheel well more.

Take a look at other member’s rides with the Sport Touring or Si Wheels and you’ll hopefully see what I mean.

Here’s a quick and dirty of mine:
