I own a 2014 Accord Sport and I know the 2015 Civic both have cheap paint that will knick easily if a rock hits the hood.

I am just wondering if the new Civic is the same or will it have a more durable paint job. I know it's too early to comment since no one here has seen it test drove the Civic but curious ATM.

I was not aware of any paint issues for the 2015 Civic. Was it widely reported?
I would assume it's the same paint process as there are some carryover colors from current Honda vehicles.

My wife's cousin has the 2015 Civic in white and his has chipped paint as well on his hood. Not sure if it's widespread, but doesn't look good on a brand new car like we have.

Not a deal breaker, but I am extra careful getting behind trucks on the highway.

You could always clear bra the front end and hood. No possible paint quality issues to deal with then.

it is not cheap paint. it is what happens when the EPA mandates "environmentally friendly" paint chemicals and processes. This is a problem for most car companies, most car companies use the same paint manufacturer(s) and processes. It has been an issue since about 2000 per my experience. All my cars up until then had strong paint. After 2000, the paint was horrible on EVERY brand of car we have own since. Two that stand out in my mind are my 87 Prelude and my previous 97 Maxima, they have strong, durable paint.

It is what it is....some body shops can still actually paint your car in the "old" formula, I had an accident in my 97 Maxima and the front end was repaired, had the car another 3 years after the repair, that paint was as strong as the factor 1997 paint. The body shop confirm to me that they used the same paint and process as the factory, so if they fixed a newer car it would get the environmentally friendly paint, which is weaker.

Now if you said you have seen some brands of new cars with good quality paint, I wouldn't know what to say about that as I have seen it too. Maybe some use DuPont and others use PPG???

Interesting, thanks for the info did not know about this. Its sad how watered down cars have become over the years compared to what we had in the 90's. Honestly that's why I prefer lighter colors since the little imperfections and dirt less noticeable.

The black looks amazing on the civic X but having owned them in the past I would never again, even without weak paint.

I had a black Toyota Solara. The nose of that car looked like it had been sandblasted, or kinda like how a black lab dog gets when they get older...their nose/muzzle turns grey...when I sold the Solara I took a Sharpie marker and filled in every little pit in that paint, took hours. Then I kept it garaged...looked good being that the Sharpie matched the car. But I'm sure the new owner was probably shocked the first time he washed that car....

I've used Xpel/Ventureshield (3M clear film) on my MS3 since new. It's held up to the worst of highway debris over the last 150K. At 75 MPH, no amount of clear coat is going to prevent chips.

Any yellowing over that time?

One thing I haven't seen in any photos so far is orange peel. Hopefully the CivicX doesn't suffer from it.

My 2016 has four stone chips on the hood after only four weeks! My 2012 Civic's paint was more durable.

That's freaking hilarious. I guess if you ever sell a white car, you could use liquid paper. :p

On my black 2013 Civic, the hood and front bumper collected a shitload of stone chips in the 2 years I drove it, so when I got my Touring, I invested in a clear bra for the hood and some 3M film for the headlights. It seems to be doing the job so far as my hood is still spotless and there's a couple marks on the film where stones have hit it
