Hi All,

Just curious as to what you all have your basic audio settings set at [treble, mid, and bass].

Right now in my 2019 Hatch Sport Touring I'm pretty much set at the middle which sounds OK to me but I'm interested in what others have the settings at.

Treb to 3/4s, mids middle and bass all the way down... Also sub unplugged. I wired an amp and two 12s. I highly suggest doing a simple upgrade. It really isn't that much money wise.

I tried to live with it by scooping *all* the mid-range out. It's listenable at low volumes when the car is still.

I just posted this in another thread. If you like bass-heavy music (and have fixed your sub rattle), I recommend moving the sound closer to the rear. Well, here's my post:

Before reading - keep in mind that this is tuned for the specific music I listen to. Bass-heavy electronic music, Rap/Hip-Hop and other electronic/ambient stuff.

Also - if you don't have a sub rattle now, you will discover it through these settings. The only way this sounds good is without the rattle.

The main issue I was having with the bass, especially with it turned all the way up (not the sub - the bass) - is that it sent too much bass to the front door speakers which can barely handle it, making the overall system sound super tinny. Moving the sound further towards the rear helped with this quite a bit. It doesn't mess with the balance too much since, IMO, the center speaker on the dash is REALLY upfront/loud with default settings.

Let me know what you think - if it sounds terrible to you, I want to know! With the sub and bass maxed out, it will distort at very high volumes. I listen to my music loud but not THAT loud. Adjust the bass accordingly. :)

----

DTS Neural Surround: ON
Fader RR: 8th dot from the left (closer to RR than FR)
Balance: In the middle
Subwoofer: Maxed out

Bass: Maxed out
Middle: 6th dot from the left
Treble: 4th dot from the right (on the higher side)

I was actually about to make a thread about this before I found this here. I have no subwoofer, but I set mine with the bass up about 3 or 4 notches and the mids and treb down about 3 notches. The hollow tinny sound of the factory hatchback setup was killing me so I had to mellow it out a bit. Looking to upgrade soon.

Is it possible to set different EQ settings for each device (i.e. Radio Sirius XM Apple Carplay etc.). I really like the sound I have with Bluetooth (I use it the most, so that’s how I have my EQ set). But when I plug in my iPhone to Carplay, the sound is less than desirable. Anything I could be doing wrong?

I don't think that you're doing anything wrong. I don't believe that you can set separate EQ settings for each source. CarPlay is using the settings set by the sound system in the car [treble, mid, bass, sub, fade,etc.]. I'm sure that if you play around enough with those settings you can find a reasonably decent setting that you're happy with.

Does your subwoofer distort? If I listen to any bass heavy song above the middle mark of my sub setting. It distorts pretty badly

DTS off. Balance and fader in the center. Treble -1, Bass+1, Sub+1. Just installed new Polk door speakers and tweeters in the sails so the settings will probably change once they are broken in. I noticed a dramatic difference in the stock speakers after a couple months of break in. Louder with more bass but the tweeters were still horrendous.

Everything set to mid and DTS off. Decided I'm just going to listen to trash until I can afford to get my system upgraded

10 speaker Premium system.
Center speaker replaced with better quality, but less sensitive speaker.
Foam backing/surround to back of speaker.

Volume up 2 click from what it was before, gives similar overall volume.
Now, a LOT more bass coming from front side speakers (as volume is higher), but without being drowned out by Honda's poor quality, overly sensitive center speaker.

All slider in middle, expect BASS, which is now turned DOWN !! to about 25%.

Still, Bugger All comes out of the SUB speaker, but that gets only such Low frequencies, that is more Vibration than sound, which after a few minutes gives me a headache, so I do not want it any louder or to share it will all cars within 50ft of me .

Stereo effects is a lot more evident, from the front left & right speakers as well, as they are not being drowned out by the original poorly frequency response of the overly sensitive Honda Center speaker.

Much improved over original, and I am now quite happy with it, after just a small mod.

Do you have DTS turned On or Off? I just read, which you might already know, is that DTS is trying to turn your sound into a 5.1 surround sound. Which got me thinking of my home theater setup. When I turn on my receiver for music and go into the “Mode” settings, I do not get any surround settings (5.1, 7.1, Dolby), just music settings.

So now I’m wondering if something like that is happening here. If you turn on DTS, it’s turning your car stereo into 5.1 theater setup which would enable the center channel speaker as in the home theater for “Voice” and “Sub” 5(.1). I’m not saying it would eliminate the center and sub speakers, but it wouldn’t try to restructure the music from Stereo to Surround making the music not as powerful(Stereo) to more immersed and over powering(Surround).

Example: Let’s say our head unit picked settings automatically. If you inserted a music CD, it would chose a Stereo setting. If you inserted a movie DVD, it would turn on DTS to include a center channel speaker and sub.

I hope you understand what I’m trying to get at. Sometimes what I think and what I type aren’t always the same.

Depends on the song -- I listen to bass-heavy music and generally the sub doesn't distort. There are times where it will and I need to reduce the subwoofer setting by 2-4 steps. Especially if I'm listening at high volumes.

90% of the time I'm good with it being maxed out. It's not always the cleanest sound, but for me it is good enough.
