WIth time comes progress, I'm sure Honda has something up their sleeves.
Epic performance by yet another car we can't have in the states.

"To achieve the quicker time, the Megane RS Trophy-R goes on quite a diet to shed 287 pounds (130 kilograms). Renault doesn't yet explain how this weight loss happens, though. The model allegedly has no rear seats and comes standard with a rollcage both for safety on the track and for added stiffness. Plexiglas windows would also save a few pounds."

Damn that's a hell of a diet LOL.

Agreed, as it this Type R with roll cage, and 287lbs subtracted may put up a similar number.
I think that's where this more "hardcore" R comes in, should be interesting.

287lbs?!?! And they bested the CTR time by about 3 secs? So if Honda puts on CF roof (as mentioned in the article), rips out the back seats, uses plexiglass and uses CF wheels...

it's practically a race car for the street, so it will not be as street-able the our Type R's....yet again, other car company CANNOT produce a STREET-ABLE front driver to beat our Type R. This is pretty clear to me, and probably the rest of the automotive world!!! This is the exact same situation as the VW producing the Golf Club Sport to beat the FK2's ring time...not difference, so Renault has proof NOTHING YET!!

EDIT: bring forward a car that is 4-door and can be street-able with baby seats (and all), then we talk, so for now, nothing comes close to being able to drive your family around on the weekdays, and bad ass racer on the weekends! Nothing yet guys, so don't worry! It be a while before we see another "practical" day to day driver / weekend racer.

i mean the ctr that made the record didn't have any carbon wheels or anything but had a supposedly "floating" roll cage and had the rear seats deleted also so you wouldn't be able to bring your family along

Good! Competition improves the breed. CTR was never going to stay king of the hill forever, and now Honda has something new to shoot for.

The CTR 'ring record car was also on Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires, so not exactly street tires. Wonder what the Megane ran?

Don’t care about lap times at all.

I take that back, manufactures having a hot hatch war is all I care about because we get cool cars.

If a Kia Rio runs a 5 minute ring lap I still won’t care about it though.

Me too. I also read somewhere that the 'Ring was re-surfaced last winter. I wonder if that affected lap times in a positive way as well?

I think this is awesome. Competition usually brings out the best in car manufacturers. I mean look at how much the Camaro and Mustang improved because of it. Hopefully, we'll get more cars like this for the US consumers. I feel like there hasn't been too many affordable performance cars in the segment so hopeful this will encourage other car makers to join in and make some pretty cool sports cars.
