Is there a specific color you want or don't want?
Was looking for black, grey or white.
But the plan is set for next year now.

If you're okay with buying used, as I know a lot are not, I managed to find mine lightly used a year old in the lowish 30s a few months ago. No problems whatsoever, a few love marks but they dont bother me as it's a daily driver and I have the option of doing a minor paint correction at any point. Got the stock rims repaired to look brand new as well and got 4 new stock tires included at time of purchase. My point is keep an eye out and you will find one in whichever condition you're after, persistence is rewarded.

Best of luck

There’s a dealer in NY, Carbone Honda of Yorkville, that sells for 2K over sticker. I was fortunate enough to get a special deal at MSRP from another NY dealership, but my location generally sets their price at $10K over sticker.

Having owned the car for about 3 months now, I can safely say that I would not be satisfied with the car if I had paid $45K+. The performance aspect is amazing, but there is a lack of polish (rattles, buzzing panels, some kind of metal on metal sound when i throttle off, etc.) that I would not find to be acceptable in a car approaching $50,000.

I didn't realize you live in Texas. I picked mine up over the weekend for MSRP with no accessories. I bought it near Houston. Honda of Spring. Had to wait a month for the white one to arrive .
I was number 6 on that waiting list in late October 2018. The salesmen act like they don't know what car is coming or what they have ordered next. As soon as I drove up to the dealership in my CTR that I got elsewhere and asked for my deposit back, they all of a sudden knew that the exact date of when the next one would arrive and that it was CW and the next one was going to be CW because "those sell faster." I appreciated that they are selling at MSRP but don't like being lied to that they don't know what color or when the next one is going to come in.

I actually already knew the next color that they were going to get because other dealerships can look at what cars have been ordered by other dealerships and what color it is. That was how I was able to track down my PMM.

There is a dealer in Spring, Tx, North side of Houston sells CTR's for MSRP, not add ons or anything like that. Picked up black one 3 weeks ago for MSRP. Got on list for $500 and within a week they called and it was done.
I was number 6 in late October of 2018 on that list. They must of had several come in since then or you got a color that others did not want. The one they got in October 2018 was CW (I saw it when it was delivered) and the next one on order was another CW. They said they were getting one in about every three months.

I got mine from Honda of Denton. It was first come first serve and the car was delivered on a Thursday afternoon and I was there when they opened the next day (I live in Houston, but was in Louisiana for a funeral). They were selling them for a little bit over sticker and the only add on was window tint. Ironically, there was a dealership in Louisiana that had the exact car I wanted at MSRP, but refused to sell me the car because their policy was not to sell to anyone buying from outside of their market area. They called a couple of weeks later and said they had changed their mind and decided I could buy the car. I told them they had already lost the business the day you said you wouldn't sell me the car.
Got mine from Honda of Denton as well. It was back in December 2017 when there was still a ton of hype. Paid $2500 over MSRP but at least it came with tint, illuminated door sills, all weather floor mats, all weather trunk mat and car cover. Over MSRP is never ideal but I didn't have to travel out of state or even out of North Texas.

Unfortunately, for specialty cars like the Type R, the dealership truly does not know dates and colors until the last minute. They cannot be ordered on the monthly order sheet. They are hand allocated by the regional office once available. Each dealer (depending on size) only gets a few pépée year. And when I say a few, you can count them on one hand unless it’s a megastore. It sounds more like the lie was after the fact when they told you that they now knew what was coming in.

Im located in Dallas Texas. I went to Rusty's.

Ill give it another year then pick one up.
Ive been a honda guy for live. Fix them up all the time.
Had a boosted 98 ex. Sold it then got a scion tc and boosted it.

Was looking toget driving a hondas again. But with how things are looking im might have to wait another year.

And thanks for the tips. Ill check out of state and cargur
That’s the thing though. You don’t need to wait a year. All you need is a different dealer. The guys going from $52K to $46K aren’t going down anywhere. They’re above MSRP by a long shot. Don’t think of it as monthly payments, think of it as the actual price you’ll be paying for the car.

So try to buy a type r over the weekend.
Sgh...

The price was listed as $38k. Get there and they are asking for $52k. A 12k markup plus taxes and bull crap warranties ($300 for the pinstriping).

So after some time there they try to talk to into a weak si.
Said no.
Then they went back and work the type r to $47k then 46k.
But they still wanted to much per month and just wasnt going to fit in with me.

So i do plan to buy one probably in a year or 2. Ill have have the price or more snd hopfully the price will drop also.

I do have a question tho.
Are the type are really hard to find/limited?
In a few years you think i can find a 2018-2019 preowned?
I agree, keep calling around. MSRP IS OUT THERE.

novadrive

When I went to my dealership in RI last month they had a blue 2018 CTR for 34k. Unfortunately I was in the market for something else.

Try approaching dealers near the end of month as well. They may go MSRP to meet quotas

I would buy it in the Midwest. When I was searching I called up 3 dealers and told them I have cash ready, I can buy today, they were all over MSRP within the span of 6 hours they all caved in and accepted my MSRP offer. The dealerni chose actually took $500 off.

Used ha, Good luck. Used ones are just as much. My dealer here has had 3 used ones actually sold one for more then the new one they had cause of number of car. The other 2 sold same day traded in for just about price of new. When dealers are giving 32k trade in for them they aint selling cheap used. The other thing to consider is condition. I know 2 Rs that got traded in that had engine replacements and wrecked and im sure dealer did not disclose. Plus the Rs my friends have ,myself included, race them, go up mountains, go over 100 a lot, hard launches....

For the small savings dont go used buy new. As for waiting youll always be waiting. Maybe ill get the 19 but then the 20s will be close and different, ill wait, then oh the 20s are here but the 21s are swindens last run and special. Ill wait. Then oh the new model is next ill wait....youll always be waiting just buy one.

Plus once swinden closes chances are high they will skip a year while they set up as their priority is the regular civic line. If so then prices will go up not down. Plus Hondas has raised the Rs price twice now and im sure will again. Stop waiting as there will always be something better next. Gotta jump in at some point.

And if your main debate is a volume knob maybe you are just nitpicking to talk yourself out of car. I dont have one dont care, my buddy has one he mostly used volume rocker on wheel. He says if wasnt there woukdnt care no idea why people make such a fuss over it.

MSRP is out there. Many of us have purchased cars for MSRP. If you call around and are willing to travel you can be one of us. It is worth the wait.
