At the end of the day no one wants to be told they are wrong. No its not the cigarettes causing my cough must be something else. No.it is not the alcohol causing liver issues must be something else. No its not the oil thats not right for the engine it must be something else.

Look test it. Change your oil to oem spec oil with spec filter and see if you have same problem. If not then its your choice of oil and you need to stick with oem. If you still have same issue with oem spec in engine then you need to talk to your dealer and get something fixed.

At the end of day you have an issue others dont so whats the difference between you with a problem and those with out one? Well its your oil choice you dont want to talk about.

Honda puts millions and millions in to research and development and its done by people way smarter then us. But what do they know? Lets not use proper spec oil then blame something else.

Not trying to put ya down im just to the point. I myself would trouble shoot it. Like I said switch back to spec oil/filter see if you have same issue. If not its your oil choice causing it. I also agree with others Redline is not the best oil for our cars. Ive been running amsoil at spec and have zero issues.

Changed mine at 6k or 30-40% and it's just fine. He's got something else going on.
but he's indicating he changed it in half of that time. I'm not sure we should dismiss that as a possibility. There's so much going on here as far as variables, its going to be difficult to nail down what the root cause is.

strange driving habits (very short drives but many track days)
alternate oil choice
VERY short oil change intervals
Oil changes performed by the owner

^^^ agreed. Don’t forget changed oil weight as well as being a different brand.

Redline on paper looks great, but recent YouTube comparisons of oil has it down to the final 2 of Mobil 1 5w30 and Amsoil OE 5w30 in the oil championships :).

Redline lost to Mobil 1 in the competition

Arbitrarily changing oil weight on a modern vehicle is crazy. I could see maybe if you lived in harsh climate after 100k and the Type R is really showing some wear that a heavier oil might be advisable. But from the start? Man that's crazy talk on a modern car.

If doesn't consume oil isn't a true Honda Engine.

Oil Comsumption was *normal*. hahaha

On my 2010, 13, 16 & now my 19 Civics, have used the same protocol: Mobil1 0W-20 AFE, Mobil1 110 filter changed at 5k intervals, am using Mobil1 0W-20 EP in the 19. None have ever used any oil between changes. I generally check the oil level every 2nd or 3rd fill up. My wife's 2002 Accord (same oil & filter used) but changed annually because she usually drives less than 5k/yr. Never touched a drop between changes. Honda designed these engines for a specific weight of oil, so have always used what was reccomended. Mobil1 products have been working well for me since about 1990, see no reason to change as they usually test near the top in comparisons and are easily available locally, usually on sale. Recently started doing Blackstone Labs UOA, the 5k on the 19 was typical, oil/fuel dilution was 1%.

I have not consumed any oil, although I only have 1 oil change on my car and 2600 miles (using Amsoil 0w20 with OEM Honda filter) changed my oil at 2300 miles for the car has seen 3 track days and 3 autocross events. Still, no indication the oil level drops from hard driving.

Although, I have seen a few others complain about oil leaks around the valve cover and also the oil filter. Perhaps give it a good look over? I would imagine finding an oil spot where your car sits wouldn't be suffice as they have splash shields covering the entire lower half of the engine... so if you're needing to add oil in 3k miles, I'd start checking for leaks as 5w30 shouldn't be causing the engine to burn oil irregularly, especially under normal driving conditions. Maybe send in an oil sample to be tested? Just to see what would show up on an analysis, you'd be surprised by what they find and recommend.

I'd still change to normal Motul or Amsoil correct weight, then see if you lose oil. Redline Royal Purple all of those burn off despite their fancy marketing bs. If the shop that I took all my performance cars to said they are trash and use standard brands that are known good as listed by others in this thread. I'll take their advice since they touch a billion more cars than I ever will.

I have a 2017 CTR. Have done over 15 full track days up in Montreal region and run Honda factory 0-20 oil. I change it when maintenance minder gets to 20%. Car has 17000km. No oil consumption. It stays at full line and have never had to add oil.

The short trips are not letting your motor warm up and with those low friction piston rings inside that I am sure that might be something that is contributing to your oil consumption issues. I have 10,000 kms on my 17’ R and drive it to and from work and on the weekends and not a drop of oil is ever consumed. I even did a hard break in on my motor with zero issues. Ran the factory oil until 20% and then had Honda change it using stock 0w20 oil. Runs like a champ.

Redline Performance oil that is Group V absorbs water and has to reach a high temp or you will degrade the oil and corrode internals.

almost 17k miles on my CTR and very little loss if any. Will confirm once I change my oil myself.

I dont think the dealer filled it up completely to the high mark (filled somewhere at 75%). Topped it off and it seems to be holding steady.

I personally followed the break-in procedure specified in the manual, and also had the dealer change the oil at around 9.5-10k when the maintenance minder said to.

I think.its safe to say by now everyone on oem spec oil no problems. His issue is his oil choice.
