Ive always said that the Si's biggest weakness are its tires, put on decent rubbers and you are looking at a car that can out handle a BMW I8, and a Golf R. Which brings me to my question, I am about ready to replace the dreadful all seasons with performance all seasons from better brands. My top choice right now is the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+. The reason why I'm going with performance all seasons over summer's is because the weather here in Texas is very unpredictable and I need something that can perform remarkably in all seasons. Has anybody swapped out their oem tires with performnace tires, if so what? And how has it been holding up in terms of performance and wear?

Good tires are next on my list, along with an intake. I'm not sure you'll get the performance you desire out of the A/S Michelins you've mentioned -- according to TireRack, they're the best rated tire in the high-performance all-seasons category (which is great!). Unfortunately, guess what came in second place -- the Eagle Sports that come standard on the Si

If you're in Texas, I assume your main concern is rain and slippery roads. If snow isn't a worry, go with high-performance summer tires that are great in the rain. I hear only good things about the Michelin Pilot Sport 4S and apparently wet traction isn't an issue. In fact, good summer tires almost always perform better in the wet than A/S. A/S is simply to accommodate light snow conditions, which upends their performance.

Don't let the name "Summer Tires" fool you. Summer tires perform well in all types of weather except snow. In fact they outperform All weather tires on wet roads

Another vote for Michelin Pilot Sport 4S. I would consider 245 on the stock wheels.

Summer tires don't like cold weather period. If you do any significant amount of driving in temps below 40-ish degree's, it is something to consider.

Just switched from factory Goodyears over to Michelin Pilot Sport A/S 3+. After 12k miles on the goodyears I had enough with the lack of wet traction, it was downright dangerous.

I haven’t been able to break them loose yet. Also subjectively quieter at highway speeds.

100% would do it over again.

I’m in need of all seasons too. Can’t do summer tires as of right now. Michelin pilot sport a/s is on top. Have 40k some experience with them in my Acura TL. Highway 90%. Warranty says they should last 30. Outlasted by 10k. Although they can’t do fast turns anymore I’m sure. But that car was only driven fast in straight line 9 times out of ten...

But, I’m thinking about Nokian zline. Might just put them on Acura first, let wife try it out. I’m sure if they are noisy or smth she won’t care.

I’m tempted because they supposedly are a match for as Michelin, continental at a 1.5 times less money.

But I am not 100% convinced yet... they have to be harder than Michelin’s, since they suppose to last 60k. But then again, am I going to drive hard enough to tell the difference which is probably felt only by driving on the edge... :dunno:

I live in upstate NY and have swapped out to winters when it got consistently below 40F. I recently just swapped backed to my OEM summers and I think for the price, it's a pretty good summer tire. ($200 upgrade). gonna consider PS4S when these goodyears are worn out

This. Believe it or not it does get below 40F here in Houston during the winter so thats why I want an all around, all season performer. And while the summer's can handle the rain just fine, I doubt they can out handle A/S even though some of you are convinced they do, and it rains like a muthafer here in Houston. Plus I believe summers dont tend to last as long as performance A/S, the Michelin all season is rated to last up to 45,000 miles which is actually very good, I doubt you can get that from any summer tire.

I opted for the updated Perelli P Zero. Which I know I'll be lucky if they last 15k miles. But 164 a piece and I can live with it. Amazing dry traction and safe in the rain but obviously cant go full throttle.

As long as it doesn’t get below 35F, I don’t see why you can’t use the Michelin PS4s all year round in houston. That’s my cutoff temp for these tires. Although I wouldn’t do the type of cornering I would when over 40F.
Flat out, these are the best road tire for dry and wet. Summer tires are also rain tires, especially these, with the inner 2/3 devoted to wet driving. The amount of water they pump just can’t be matched by all seasons.
Short of the Michelin Sport Cup 2, which aren’t great in the wet, the PS4s are probably the best tires to place on the Si to eek out its full potential

This is good to know especially when I live in Florida and we’re going into rain season and it doesn’t get below 40 degrees in the winter actually 50 degrees it looks like summer tires would benefit me
Thanks

I'll give the Continental ExtremeContact Sport a +1, have had it on for a few hundred miles and it's performed excellent in dry and wet conditions. The stock tires are a joke, I'm so surprised the Si gets the praise it does by journalists with those tires on. I can only imagine if they drove an Si with a lighter set of wheels, and summer tires how mind blown they would have been.

Funny, I almost spun out my Si yesterday zipping around an onturn to get on I-15. I pushed it a little too hard, the back-end started to go but corrected itself just in time before disaster struck. Might have to blame the driver on this one! :spaz:

For those who don't know Texas,
the funny thing about Texas is that there isn't real winter and there is rarely snow, yet there is ice every year. You can have a sunny 70 degree December day then wake up the next morning and discover it's below 30. This will go on, back and forth, for months. And yes, everyone eventually gets sick because of it.

As for getting a set of winter tires, these cold snaps come and go so frequently that a driver would be changing wheels daily or weekly to keep up with the weather. It just wouldn't work. Personally, I will probably go with the Pilot Sport A/S 3+. I want the Pilot Sport 4S but I know it's just not a practical solution given the number of commutes below freezing I'll see. I'm also hoping the slightly harder compound will stand up better to those sustained 120 degree months.
