Sad day. I went to meet with a client for lunch since it was such a beautiful day here in NJ. After lunch I come back to this. Some dummy hit my car and fled the scene. Fortunately a construction working that was doing work near by saw it all and got the license plate number. I called the cops and told them everything. By the time the officer arrived the dude that hit my car came back and confessed everything. I'm glad I'm okay, but this still sucks.

Damn, sad day it is. Becoming quite common now. Shall we start a new thread for our fallen heroes?

Installed my Mugen shift knob and Rally Armor mud flaps. Loving both, but this shift knob just hits all the marks- styling, feel, and quality!

How hard is it to install a shift knob for someone who is extremely DIY challenged? Also, where did you get that particular knob.. been thinking about swapping the OEM accessory knob for either the stock one or maybe a new one, but I don’t feel like paying to have it installed.

Bro, the shift knob just unscrews. The only thing you probably have to pay attention to is the alignment of the gear embossing.

It’s not quite that easy, but close. There is a lock nut directly under the knob that you will need to loosen with a wrench before you can screw the knob off. You Tube is your friend for all DIY projects.

It is easy. Here is a Youtube video showing the process-

.

There are 2 things I would mention though about the video:

1. Please don't use a screwdriver to lower the shift boot ring. Use a soft pry tool instead, or you're asking for scratches.

2. This was an important comment about the locking collar: "Anyone watching this be aware. At the beginning of this video when the OEM knob is being removed, the reverse locking collar is being turned the wrong way with the wrench. The knob should be gripped firmly with one hand, then the reverse locking collar turned "clockwise" with the wrench to loosen it and free it from the bottom of the knob. Then, the knob can be turned "anti-clockwise" to unscrew from the shaft. Then, when the new knob is installed, the reverse locking collar should be turned until it is in the lowest possible position on the shaft, then the new knob should be threaded on all the way until it bottoms out, then adjusted so the shift pattern numbers are in the proper position. Then, hold the knob firmly with one hand while turning the reverse locking collar with the wrench to tighten it up against the bottom of the knob."

Just be careful and take your time- no need to pay for install!

I forgot to mention- for the shift knob, this particular model is part number: MUG-54102-XMEB-K0S0-BK.
I got mine from Evasive Motorsports here: https://www.evasivemotorsports.com/store/product/mugen-shift-knob-black-anodized-leather/
However there are a few other online retailers that carry them (RHD Japan, King Motorsports to name a couple).

There are also some knock offs on eBay made in China, but that is up to you if you want to go that route.

I got some new parts in today. Also dropped my car off to get quote for the recent damage it was involved in.
