At MSRP, the performance and practicality the Type R offers is just hard to top. It’s performance rivaling cars worth three times the price is just impressive.

Many still see it as a dumb Civic with an even dumber looking wing, but those who own one surely know otherwise.

I took the article as slightly tongue-in-cheek BUT, with the major caveat that they are being completely subjective with the driving experience, minus one reference to the 'Ring time. With respect to how I feel before, during, and after driving the R, it's unlike any car I've driven and I've owned some good ones and driven some really good ones.

That said, the Ferrari/Porsche/Lambo crowd isn't ONLY buying those cars for the driving experience and by that I mean, the driving dynamics and feel of the car. They have a very different experience, ownership, status, and performance perspective in mind. And with that, the Civic Type R is still just a Civic.

It's just a really %#$&%!@ good Civic and more importantly, a really good %#$&%!@ car.

I don't know about three times. That's in M3/M4 or 911 terrority. I would trade my Type-R for either car if money wasn't a problem.

You can't blame them. Honda took a hatchback and sprinkled hotboi go fast parts on it.

I agree. This car has tons of personality. Definitely an experience every time you get in and drive it.

I had a 2010 Audi S4 manual and that thing was fast, capable, great build quality but was so numb and felt soulless.
I'm so glad I didn't end up going that route. I was starting to consider going German for my next vehicle, as the Japanese have left all sporty cars to die a tragic death. That is, until I discovered the CTR.

I was considering a 2016 S4 for the longest time- I wanted the last year of the 6MT, thinking it would hold value better. I never ended up even test driving one. After searching for several months, I couldn't find one optioned the way I like anywhere on my side of the country.

I was a bit hesitant though. Before that I drove a Golf R and wanted to die with how brutally numb that car was. The clutch felt non existent. The shifter was completely anemic feeling (not to mention a host of other issues with the R, like the weak ass clutch that can barely put down stock power without failing). I figured the S4 would be more of the same- all in the name of the luxury nameplate.

And it sounds like my thought process was right. There's something else with a 2016 S4- it just looks and feels dated. That B8 platform was out forever and then some, that by 2016 it just felt out of place.

You definitely made the right choice. Even optioned with the sport differential, the car had no personality. Plus Audi's previous generation infotainment and lack of USB/Bluetooth streaming support was laughable. Totally agree about the dated platform of the B8. The B8.5's were slightly nicer to drive. but still, nowhere close to the engagement and driving pleasure of the R.

I've been a Honda fan boi ever since I got into cars, about 17 years ago. I liked everything about the CTR... Besides its looks.

The only reason I was leaning towards a Golf R was for the subdued looks. I knew the CTR was the better buy overall but I couldn't fathom pulling up to work in that thing. I figured I'd get laughed at everyday.

Turns out people are just super curious about it and want to know what it can do... And those who I've taken for a quick spin, never come back disappointed :D

No regrets. Tinted windows help keep the "loud" interior down. I see golf Rs everyday. I rarely see CTRs which is nice.

I doubt it. The biggest mistake was trading my S2000 for my CTR. I recently drove a M2 and was considering trading/selling my CTR for that.
Why continue to drive the CTR with affordable alternatives (S2K) to choose from?“Was considering” tells me you changed your mind about the M2...& “Doubt” means you’re obviously uncertain. I mean no disrespect...but something just doesn’t add up...unless you factor in “life”...but that’s your story to tell. But if you are certain that this isn’t the right car for you then you’re not doing yourself any favors by holding on.

I thought I made a mistake when I drove my CTR home from out of state. Not because I didn’t like the car. I regretted making a significant purchase that only I could enjoy. After putting 4K on the odometer I thought it was time to find a cheaper and more practical alternative. I was offered $34-35k to trade in my RR CTR for essentially anything new or used from the local dealerships. If I went for cheaper alternative they were ready to cut me a check for the balance since my CTR is paid off. They wanted it bad for whatever reason. But I walked and decided to stalk the used car market until I found something more practical and fun for less than $35k. 7 months & 5k miles later I realized my search for a better all-around vehicle was damn near impossible...it was already sitting in my garage.

Personally, I think we’d be doing ourselves a disservice if we ever stopped looking for something better. There will never be perfect vehicle, but with the CTR I am as close to content as I’ve ever been with any vehicle. I will now only trade my RR for a newer RR‍♂ But I can’t write off the Phoenix yellow since we have yet to see one in person.

I hope you find a car that you’d be content with...cost may not always be the deciding factor, but it will always be a factor. Good luck on your search

Every time I drive my CTR it puts a fun and excited smile on my face. It is a blast to drive and I haven't even done any serious performance modifications yet. I don't think I've ever been happier with a car purchase.

LOL trade it then....just because YOU personally regret your purchase does not shadow real world facts that the type R is pretty damn close in terms of performance next to those pricier. I know for a fact @ msrp theres nothing else close to it. Have fun with the beamer, they're sweet cars for sure.
