Is the factory speaker wire thick enough gauge to handle a aftermarket amplified signal? I plan to add a Audiocontrol D-6 1200amp all in one 6 channel AMP/LOC/DSP unit to power Front Mids/Front Tweeters/Rear Mids and Sub signal to JL xd600v2 to power my Subwoofer. I thought about running new speaker wires from the Audiocontrol Amp to the door speakers but if the factory wires can handle it, I can send the signal back near the passenger kick panel than trying to route new cable through the door to save some headaches. What is your take on factory wiring?
125x6 and on that D6.1200 and 400 from the JL for a tiny 8” sub seems like gross overkill for this little hatch. Not sure if factory wiring could handle that.

Mine is super clean, clear, and can play way louder than I need at 58x2 + 200x1. The back is on the stock amplifier because it’s just filler anyway.

The Civic system will turn on the JL Fix86 when sound comes over the audio system. That will turn on the amp. So if you run that DSP, for sure no resistors required.

As for the signal, the factory amplifier is just above the passenger right foot- kick panel location. You would cut post factory amplified signal at the speaker output wires and send to the DSP, and then send post corrected and amplified signal back to the speaker side of that cut. Pretty easy stuff. The JL unit runs a test tone at a requested volume and presets everything. Not too tough once you do one.

Thank you. I was considering running the audio control 1200 as well, but would also consider just amplifying the fronts and sub if it gets loud enough. What amp/speakers are you running again? Anybody have a color code for the oem wire cut post amp?

I have my setup listed out a few posts back, check it out.

You definitely need a DSP to get it to sound right before amplifying the front stage. Otherwise, there’s some odd equalization changes at varying volumes.

There’s one of the Facebook pages for CTR owners that lists the wire mapping off the factory amplifier.

The sub has been upgraded by many members and it's one of the easiest ways to improve the system. You do not need a dsp for the sub.
For those looking for an economical upgrade, he's what I would suggest:
- upgrade the factory 8" sub and use the factory enclosure
- upgrade the door woofers, factory tweeters are pretty good
- add 4 channel amp, bridge 2 ch to sub and 1 each to woofers
Very nice setup. Curious why you chose RF amp vs something more high end.

Yes you need a DSP. You’ll find out soon why - you sub signal will he cut off.

See my signature for all the audio system upgrade we’ve tested many things on.

I personally like my music loud and clear. On the stock system, I could hear the distortion kick in around 26. If you turn up the volume to 30, it feels like the speakers will break.
yikes. your ears must be pretty damaged lol.
i never go past volume 17 on my car. I have the same amp as you with a kicker sub. stock front speakers.

You're setup was what inspired me to go ahead with this.
Believe it or not, I had these equipment sitting in my garage. I work for an audio shop and from time to time, I get products for free or at a stupid low price. Since the amps were going to be hidden, I didn't feel the need to buy a mosconi amp to match. The RF does the job and I already had it. I think a DSP is a must for any audio install that includes the factory radio.

My wife thinks so, lol.
I work with car audio and hear amazing systems weekly and some of them are best experienced at a certain volume. I generally keep it around 18-20 but know if I go up to 25+, it's still clear.
The RF micro amps are amazing for their size, recommend them to anyone looking for an amp.

I have never thought our FK8 lacks bass. The stock audio system lack tremble high-pitch and mid-range quality though..

It is worse than my Mazda3 GT with the bose system

Maybe it's just my CTR but I swear my 2006 Si (with the stock premium audio) has so much more bass from it's subwoofer than my 2019 CTR. I never hear my sub in the CTR. I can barley hear it even when I put my ear right next to it. It makes my music sound less full overall as I pretty much only hear the front speakers and not much coming from the sub, it's so disappointing. The same songs played in my 06 Si sound really good but when played in my CTR they sound less full overall since the bass isn't as evident. The odd thing is that when I run the speaker test (accessed via the "hidden" menu), the subwoofer sounds amazing and it really can put out some good bass but that's the only time I ever hear it sound that way. With music, either Sirius, USB or Android Auto the bass is very disappointing. Is my CTR faulty or is this what others are experiencing?

I didn't even know the CTR had a sub until I saw it. Barely any bass even when cranked.

You're not wrong, I had a 2006 Si as well, and the sub was better. I'm not sure if it was location or quality or the power being supplied from the stock amp, but it was better than the CTR's. Replacing the sub and adding an amp GREATLY improved my quality of life while driving.

What kind of price are we looking at for this simple upgrade? I'd pay to have it installed too.

I did it myself, even though after I wish I had paid someone just to shove the power cable through the washer grommet...

I spent $500 for the amp, sub, cables, and installation bits (batting, tape, etc...).

The important parts were:
Amp: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00LMNMO8A/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Amp kit: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0012C1TUK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Sub: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00JQTU434/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It took me 2.5 hours, with 1 hour of fighting with the power cable, and 1.5 hours being anal about cable splices & taping. So expect to pay a shop ~2 hours of time.

I upgraded mine myself the second day of ownership. Replaced the Sub, all front speakers and the rear door speakers, installed a decent Rockford amp with a LC2i and the remote control.
Didn’t take me more than 1 day with taking my time and enjoying the installation. It’s basic stuff and anyone can do it ..... just read this and do it yourself. No need to pay a shop for something this basic
