So I am never the type of person to jump into a purchase without exhaustively researching all of my options. I have been shopping a clutch for my Si for a while now. My current one is not slipping, but I want to do more for power and would rather have the clutch upgraded first.

I have read countless reviews on different companies and various different stages of clutches. It is difficult to get clear, concise, and accurate information. For example, a friend of mine got the Spec 2+ with aluminum flywheel installed. He loves it. No chatter and grabs really well with no lock out issues.. However, I have heard from others with the same clutch with lock out problems. The same goes for the CM FX350 with lightened flywheel. Some love it with no issues. But I have heard that the flywheel can sometimes bang against the bell housing because it is sized wrong? Again, it is hard to get accurate info.

I have not really seen or heard any feedback on Action's newly released 10th gen Civic clutch line. We have also all heard that Eman's Type R retrofit is the way to go, but currently it is not really convenient or cost effective for anyone who doesn't live within driving distance of him.

The majority of Si owners are like me. We want a 280-300whp/300-330wtq reliable car that is not going to implode or need a new clutch every 20k miles. A lot of that is how you drive it obviously.

That all being said, does anyone know where you can get unbiased reviews on the number of clutch options that are currently available? I have also heard that a few companies are working on a "Type R-esque" clutch for the Si. But again, that has been hearsay so far.

Any specific reason you’re waiting on exedy? Previous experience with the brand? Or more likely to have a better product since they’re the oem manufacturers?

Cuz they are Oem manufacturer they are more likely than all others to have a kit that doesn’t have any issues like chatter and cel. They made a good one in the stock ctr.

I’ve decided I’m going with @k20z3allmotor ’s Type R clutch retro fit. Like was mentioned, the OEM Type R clutch is more than capable of holding my power goals. It’s priced very close to any aftermarket clutch and flywheel kit anyway. It’s the best option right now, in my opinion.

I would have done the eman option if I was local. Just being in Florida, the downtime of it all wouldn’t work out for me. I’m happy with the spec even with the lockout issue I have which I’m working on

I am honestly in the same boat here with the inconsistent reviews concerning our limited clutch options! I like the stock clutch feel and emailed Exedy for a status update on their upgrades for which they replied spring/summer. But I am aware that was their response last year. For every good review of a fx300/350, or spec or whatever, I can read an equivalent bad review. I don't like to take chances on a $1k install. I'd like to be close to Type R'ish hp high 200's range (for maintaining reliability, my daily drive that won't be track'ed) just without the extra monthly payment and I just don't like hatchbacks no matter how hard I try. With that being said I plan on adding bolt-ons (easier to reverse when time to sell vs Garret turbo kit) to get me there. W1 turbo, catted DP/FP, CAI (27Won or PRL race), Upgraded intercooler and piping (PRL likely unless 27Won's comes out quickly) and pump gas 93 here in Chicago (don't want the E85 complexity). Already have the Ktuner V2 and front strut brace/rear sway bar and extra set of 19" wheels with Indy 500 stickier tires. But the clutch?!?! I don't know...the CTR retrofit is the only option (or hack?) that stands out above all other and gets the most positive reviews, buuuuuuut....I need more Intel on that

most negative responses i have seen are one of 2 problems;
1, shudder and shake leaving the line.
2, gear lockout.

now i am no master mechanic and can only discuss from my own experiences.
1, shudder and shake leaving the line with a stage 3 clutch only happens when you try to drive it like its a stock clutch. the materials used are not designed to slip like factory materials. they will fight you. you need to give it more rpm and expect it not to slip near as much. surge launch instead of slip it. its the nature of higher stage clutches.

2, all the gear lockout i have seen have always been fixed by adjusting the engagement point on the pedal up. clutchmaster clutches all seem to engage further down on the pedal than the stock clutch. which means it is not fully releasing with full pedal push. adjust it up so you have a SMALL amount of slack at the top of the pedal. yes. make it higher than you think is right. your next fast shift will be smoooth. next is the clutch delay valve on these makes the matter worse by making the engagement point wander significantly. get rid of that crap.

my 2c.
